Objective: At current stage there is no definite standards for classification of the quality of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding, which hinders the production of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim used as Traditional Chinese Medicine. Therefore it is urgent to study and draw up methods for inspection of the quality of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding as well as the standards for classification of the quality of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding so as to guarantee the control over the quality of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding from the source, and to regularize the plantation and production of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding and to improve the quality of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim used as medicine.Methods: This article collected 30 Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding from its main producing areas such as Shandong, Henan, Hebei etc, as the research subject, studying the quality inspection methods of the seeding, the quality grading standards of the seeding and the growth after grading planted of the seeding respectively, and systematically expounded the standard detection methods of quality and the grading standards of quality of the Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding. It provides a theoretical basis for determining the classification on quality of the Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding.Results: Determining the inspection methods of main quality indicators of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding such as sampling, clarity analysis, root weight, authenticity, diseases and insect pests rate, germination temperature and moisture content of the seeding.Through statistical analysis of each trait indexes and with the combination of the actual situation in collection and planting process of the Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding, the reference index of the three hierarchical classification based on the diameter, the length and the weight of the seeding. Quality grading standards of the seeding are divided into three grades. First grade: the diameter of the seeding ≥30mm, length ≥75mm, weight≥60g, the second grade the diameter of the seeding ≥20mm, length≥70mm, weight≥40g, and the third grade the diameter of the seeding ≥10mm, length ≥65mm, weight≥20g, and in the mean time plant diseases and insect pests are be allowed. The first grade seeding is optimum, the second grade seeding is suboptimum, and the third grade seeding is the worst.Conclusion: After the initial classification of the Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding based on quality, a field planting experiment shall be made to further examine the influences left by the seeding classification on growth index. The experiment proved that the classification method based on statistical analysis of each quality index of the Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding collected from different origins is scientific and feasible, it is applicable to production of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim and can be used as a standard to guide the planting of Trichosanthes kirilowii Marim seeding.
