The experiment explored the nut quality differences among different almond cultivars, and determined the contents of quality related indexes of 37 kinds of cultivated almond and wild almond acoording to qualitative and quantitative analysis in order to select almond cultivars with good quality and development poteintial, and provide scientific and rational thoeretical guidance for the breeding, processing and marketing of almond in our country. In this experiment, the almond nuts were chosen as research objects to determine the appearance quality, nutrition quality and the contents of amino acids and amygdalin based on the national standard method. The result showed: 1) The appearance quality of different almond cultivars had great differences between each other; the vertical, horizontal and side diameters of nuts and kernels of some cultivars had big coefficients of variation, and their product consistencies were a little poor. 2) The differences of nutrition indicators in these almond cultivars were significant; the nutrient elements in almond kernels were rich in range and content, and these almonds were excellent forestry products. 3) When enjoying the fresh almond kernels, the contents of amygdalin were low in the kernels of Kexi, Shizi, Tianrentaobadan, Badanwang, Baichang, Nonpareil, Baibadan, Zhipi, Dabadan, Baibo, Amannisha, Mission, Changbo, Yerqiang, Bianzuihe, Make, Baishuang, Butte, Thompson and Sonora, and they were excellent edible cultivars for the perfect tastes; while Xiaotaobadan, Kuanying, wild almond and Kubadan were the perfered medical processing cultivars.Conclusions obtained from analyzing the appearance and nutrition quality of almond were as follows: 1) The appearance quality were the best in almond cultivars of Nonpareil, Kexi, Butte, Zhipi, Kubadan, Baibao, Thompson, Sonora, Badanwang and Yerqiang. 2) The nutrition quality were the greatest in Thompson, Butte, Yerqiang, Zhipi, Sonora, Nonpareil, Duoguo, Mission, Wanfeng and Shuangruan. 3) Considering both the appearance quality and nutrition quality, Nonpareil, Butte, Zhipi, Thompson, Sonora and Yerqiang were the best cultivars with greater development poteintial, and they could be used as the edible cultivars to plant and develop in the main almond producing areas of Xjiang reagion.
