Sugarcane is a kind of main economic crops in southern China and principal raw material for sugar and ethanol production. Sugarcane planting area is about 300 million acres in the world and China ranks the third. At present, because of the high broken rate, impurity content, fuel consumption, and low reliability, the sugarcane harvester is difficult to be popularized and most harvest relies on people’s manual operation. Therefore, researching on the high-efficiency, reliable, energy-saving sugarcane harvester will greatly improve the production efficiency.Sugarcane harvester is a kind of high power agricultural machinery with complicated working process and complex implementing components. During the practical working process, the loads keep changing frequently, which lead to the pressure and flow rate of whole hydraulic system varying continuously in result the serious losses of overflow and throttle. In this paper, the essential reason for the losses of overflow and throttle is analyzed, which is that the pressure and flow rate provided by pump can not match the load needing and they are often greater than the actual demand of the load. Consequently, the redundant part of the hydraulic energy is wasted in the form of overflow and throttle. The power doesn’t match between the engine and the hydraulic pump, which causes the engine working in high energy consumption. Rational matching the power system of sugarcane harvester is necessary in order to reduce the power loss.In this paper, according to the characteristic of sugarcane harvester and its typical working conditions, by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of three kinds of electro-hydraulic control system which are independent control system and central control system and classification combination control system, an suitable electro-hydraulic control system has been designed. Based on the features of engine and hydraulic system, a global constant power and variable power coordinated control matching method based on the engine speed response control is proposed. By monitoring the output power of each subsystem,the engine output power is calculated to find out the best working region of engine according to the BSFC curve of engine. Effective power matching between the engine and the hydraulic system is achieved by regulation in throttle, hydraulic pump discharge and rotational speed of each actuator according to rotational speed error of engine.By analyzing the structure of engine and hydraulic system, the simulation model is established based on the AMESim software. The dynamic characteristics of the system is analyzed through step response of the load. Working status of sugarcane harvester is simulated and the reliability and effectiveness of control strategy is verified. Taking the 4ZL-160 all-pole type sugarcane harvester as experimental object, related experiment tests are done and experimental results agree with simulated results.
