Chili pepper originated from the America,it was introduced to American and Asian coastal countries and cities by the European half a century after Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. In the 16th century, pepper was introduced into China and soon accepted by the public.That change not only pushed the diet revolution but also accelerated the development of agricultural economy.The paper is take the seed-introduction as well as the dispersal of chili pepper as the research object.As for the time,it’s from Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China, local chronicles of that period is the theoretical basis of the erray.The theories and statistics is taken into account.The introducing time and traits is discussed and the dispersal of chili pepper in Ming,Qing Danasty and the Republic of China is stated.The reason why it dispersed so quickly through out the country and the effects after it was introduced to China will be analysed via the horizontal and vertical comparison.Chili pepper have five varieties, all of those originated from the America.After Columbus brought peppers into Europe, chili was introduced into India and East Coast of Africa by Portuguese and Spanish traders, and then Japan and Indonesia. The papper consider that chili introduced into China in the 16th century by sea transportation, chili pepper was firstly cultivated in Guangdong,Zhejiang,Hebei and Shandong.Chili pepper have different names at different times and in different regions. The research discriminate the alias of chili to avoid corruption and errors, This is the basis of studying the dispersal of chili. Chili’s name in different area was different. Northern areas named chili an antiquity name which coreferencation the Chinese prickly ash which also tasting pungent in ancient times. It’s rare in the Republic of China of the case of homolym.The recordation of chili pepper in local chronicles in the provinces procide the foundation for researching the propagation path in the Qing Dynasty, and chili’s promotion in the the Republic of China. Chili pepper logged in coastal area in earliest. Guangdong, Guizhou, Hunan, Zhejiang, Henan, Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning Province,is the first batch of chili plant. Chili became popular first in Shandong, Hebei and Hunan then followed by Guizhou and Guangdong. Chili spread to Hunan Province by businessman from Guangdong, then the surrounding areas plant chili. Chili came into Hebei and other Central Plains province from the coast of the Shandong province,then dispersal into Shaanxi, Gansu and other northwestern regions. China plant chili around in the Republic of China, Wangdu, Yidu, Jiahe, Shaoyang,etc, became producing county of chili. China become one of the world’s major chili producing countries.Chili pepper spread in all areas of China frequently after it came into China, it’s not only because of its ecological adaptability, but also because of the desire of summer vegetables of China. War and migration promoted the widespread of chili, and the development of agriculture promoted the production of chili, the pursuit of economic interests encouraging producers to increase chili pepper’s production inputs. Chili not only enriched our diet, enriched our culture, but also developed the economic.
