The chili pepper industry in Xinjiang with rapid development gradually expand the scale of capsicum planting in recent years.The method of Hand-harvested for pepper can not meet the demand of pepper industry in Xinjiang.Because of labor shortages and labor costs rising, iturgently leading to the mechanization of harvest for chili pepper. Due to chili mechanized harvesting research is still in its infancy, there is no mature harvester meeting the mechanized harvesting of pepper inland. With the field experiement of domestic harveters, results are found that the harvested pepper fruit mixed with much more stalks and leaves, as well as the stems which are harvested are attached to a large number of peppers. Some pepper-harvests have much field losses. This paper analyzes the case of the pepper harvest machinery at home and abroad.By learning the foreign mature pepper mechanical harvesting experience, considering the characteristics of pepper cultivation in Xinjiang, a comb-style chili-picking device is provide and reference is given for follow-up chili machinery.The main contents of the research are as follows:Pepper field survey is conducted to understand the characteristics of capsicum planting in Xinjiang.And the botanical characteristics and physical and mechanical properties of the capsicum are measured by experiment.The pepper picking device is designed according to the planting mode and characteristics of chili pepper.Combined with the Solidworks modeling software, ADAMS analysis software, finite element analysis software,pepper picking device is conducted simulation optimization and structural optimization, parameter optimization are included. The prototype of pepper-picking device and test-bed are constructed, and pepper picking experiment is conduct to obtain the reasonable structure parameters and motion parameters.In this paper, a method of combining virtual prototyping technology and experimental is adopted for research of comb-type pepper picking device.The main results of the research are as follows:1. Considering the chili pepper cultivation in Xinjiang, pepper planting mode is known by field survey. The physical and mechanical properties of capsicum fruits are reseached. The connection force between pepper fruit and stalk is mearsured by experiment.The average connection force is11.14N.2. The overall design of comb-type pepper picking device is conducted. Then the geometric model of picking system is established. Use finite element software, as Solidworks Simulation, for finite element analysis to optimize the structure of the rack, comb-finger, transmission shaft and fixing plane for comb-finger. And the strength of the Transmission shaft is checked. Frequency analysis for the Transmission shaft is conducted.3. Using ADAMS software to simulate the interaction between the comb-finger and pepper. Through the collision process between the comb-finer and pepper, the range of the picking belt speed is2.17m/s to2.89m/s is determined; Use ADAMS to simulate the movement of picking belt, then the displacement and speed fluctuations of the comb-finger are analyzed.4. The optimum speed of the comb, the comb-finger spacing, travel speed are confirmed by Orthogonal experiment for picking pepper:speed of picking belt is2.17m/s, the comb-finger spacing is40mm,and travel speed is1.2km/h.
