The experiment in Changtu County, Tieling City, Liaoning Province, Guomie animal husbandry farms 120 of about 80kg " Landrace Yorkshire" crossbred pigs for the study, Different doses of metformin in their basic diet, test fattening pigs were randomly divided into five treatment groups with three replicates of 8 pigs.The first group was the control group:basal diet; the second group is the basal diet+100mg/kg metformin; the third group of basal diet+200mg/kg metformin; the fourth group of basal diet+300mg/ kg metformin; the fifth group of basal diet+400mg/kg metformin; consistent feeding and management conditions for each test group. By feeding trial, trial of slaughter, meat quality and blood parameters index detection testing, preliminary explore mechanism of action of metformin fattening pigs on growth performance, blood index and meat quality control, define its adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) gene expression the amount of influence. The results show that:1. Diets adding metformin improves the breeding pig production performance, metformin can significantly reduce the fattening pigs average daily gain (ADG) (P< 0.05), and significantly reduce the feed weight ratio (F/g) (P< 0.05).2. Diets adding metformin can improve fertility levels in pig serum creatine kinase (P> 0.05) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) (P> 0.05), lower cholesterol (CHO) (P< 0.05), triglyceride (TG3) (P< 0.05) and glycogen (P> 0.05) and lactic acid level (P< 0.05).3. Adding metformin in diets had a positive effect on pork carcass traits, metformin can improve carcass lean ratio (P>0.05) and slaughter rate (P>0.05), reduced fat ratio (P>0.05). Metformin significantly improves the pig eye muscle area (P< 0.05), and significantly reduced backfat thickness (P< 0.05).4. Diets adding metformin can reduce the shear force of the pork (P> 0.05), and increased pH (P> 0.05), marbling (P> 0.05), muscle color (P> 0.05) and other indicators of grade trend. Metformin could significantly reduce the breeding pig drip loss (P< 0.05).5. Diets adding metformin could significantly improve the longissimus muscle AMPK gene expression (P< 0.05) and 400mg/kg metformin group of AMPK expression was higher than that of other added amount of each experimental group, and control group compared to reach significant level.In summary, metformin regulation of carbohydrate, lipid metabolism of blood indices, improve breeding pig pork quality and improve the expression of AMPK gene. But high dose of metformin can reduce breeding pig production performance. From the test results show that diets added 200mg/kg metformin can ensure the production performance of pigs, and can improve the breeding pig meat performance. From the point of view to improve the meat quality effect, add 400mg/kg metformin is best on finishing pig meat quality improvement.
