This study selects flue-cured tobacco leaves in Fujian, Yunnan, Sichuan, from the appearance quality, routine chemical components and physical properties, sensory quality four aspects to study the influence between sulfur content and tobacco quality of tobacco leaves, and determine the three areas suitable sulfur content for control sulfur content and provide an important reference for further improving the quality of tobacco leaves.1. Sulfur content of flue cured tobacco leaves in Fujian is mainly concentrated in 0.41%-0.80%, the sulfur content in Yunnan is mainly concentrated in 0.10%-0.50%, In Sichuan the sulfur content is mainly concentrated in 0.10%-0.30%. The sulfur content in Fujian is higher in three areas, in Yunnan is moderate, and the sulfur content in Sichuan tobacco growing areas is low.2. The sulfur content of tobacco leaves is negatively correlated with the status and oil of tobacco leaves in Fujian. The sulfur content is positively correlated with the color of tobacco leaves, and is negatively correlated with the identity and oil in Yunnan. The sulfur content is positively correlated with the color, and negatively correlated with the status of the tobacco leaves in Sichuan. The sulfur content in tobacco leaves increased, the identity becomes thinner and the oil decreased. The sulfur content in tobacco leaves is in the middle and lower levels, with the increase of the sulfur content, the color changes deeply. Multiple comparison results show that the with the sulfur content increasing, the identity becomes thinner in three tobacco growing areas, in Fujian and Yunnan tobacco growing areas with the sulfur content increasing leaf oil become less, With the sulfur content increased tobacco leaves become darker in color in Yunnan and Sichuan.3. Sulfur content of tobacco leaves in Fujian is positively correlated with nicotine and potassium, while the ratio of sugar to nicotine is negatively correlated. Sulfur content of tobacco leaves in Yunnan is positively correlated with nicotine, total nitrogen, potassium content, while chlorine, sugar alkali ratio are negatively correlated. Sulfur content of tobacco leaves in Sichuan is positively correlated with nicotine and total nitrogen, while total sugar, reducing sugar, sugar alkali ratio are negatively correlated. Multiple comparison results show that with the increasing of sulfur content in tobacco leaves, the content of nicotine increases, while sugar to nicotine ratio decreases in three tobacco growing areas. The potassium content will increase with the sulfur content increasing in Fujian and Yunnan, total nitrogen content will increase with the sulfur content in tobacco leaves increasing in Yunnan and Sichuan, with the sulfur content in tobacco leaves increased in Sichuan, total sugar, reducing sugar content will reduce.4. Sulfur content of tobacco leaves in Fujian is negatively correlated with the thickness. Sulfur content of tobacco leaves in Yunnan is positively correlated with surface density, while equilibrium moisture content is negatively correlated. Sulfur content of tobacco leaves in Sichuan is positively correlated with surface density, leaf weight, leaf length and width and negatively correlated with thickness of tobacco leaf. Multiple comparison results show that tobacco leaf thickness increases with the sulfur content decreasing in Fujian and Sichuan, tobacco leaf density increases with the sulfur content increasing in Yunnan and Sichuan, equilibrium moisture rate increase with sulfur content in tobacco leaves increasing in Yunnan, single leaf weight, leaf length, leaf width will increase with the sulfur content in tobacco leaves increasing.5. Sulfur content of tobacco leaves in Fujian is negatively correlated with aroma quality, miscellaneous gas and irritation index. The sulfur content of tobacco leaves in Yunnan is negatively correlated with volume of aroma, miscellaneous gas, aftertaste, irritation index and positively associated with smoke impact and concentration. Correlation between sulfur content and sensory quality of tobacco leaves is not significant in Sichuan tobacco growing areas. In Fujian and Yunnan, the scores of the miscellaneous gas and irritation index decreased with the increase of the sulfur content of tobacco leaf, and the increase of the miscellaneous gas and irritation index. Aroma quality score is decreased with the increasing of the sulfur content in Fujian. Volume of aroma, aftertaste score are decreased with the sulfur content increasing, while smoke impact and concentration are increased.6. According to the results of the multiple comparison of different sulfur content ranges and tobacco sensory quality. In Fujian sulfur content of tobacco leaves is in the≤0.80% range. And in Yunnan sulfur content of tobacco leaves is in the≤0.50% range, tobacco sensory qualities score the highest and physical properties, chemical composition, appearance quality is relatively appropriate. In Sichuan the sulfur content of tobacco leaves is in the 0.21%-0.30% range, the physical properties of tobacco leaves are better, and the chemical composition and the appearance quality of tobacco leaves is relatively appropriate.
