Compression is a necessary link in the process of converting herbage resources into commodities, and stress relaxation is the main rheological property of the herbage material compression process. Stress relaxation directly affect the compression of hay baler, the determination of parameters such as frequency, length of the compression chamber. In turn,affects the productivity and stability of the bale, and hay baler power matching and structure parameters.In this paper, the 9KG-350 type hydraulic high density press is used as the test equipment and using Leymus chinensis as test materials. A compression force formed herbage layer as the research unit. Thin film pressure sensor and data acquisition card constitute the data acquisition system. To research compression section size changes to the stress relaxation effect in the open compression.In baler stable working state, the section size is adjusted to 360mm×440 mm,360 mmx450mm and 360mm x460mm, and study on the herbage layer in the whole process of compression stress relaxation characteristics.The results showed that:Under different cross sections, the herbage layer in the x direction were apparent stress and stress relaxation properties. Section change has caused changes of grass x direction stress, but the stress variation law and the stress relaxation characteristics have little influence.Study on the herbage layer in the different sections of the stress variation law and stress relaxation characteristics. It provides theoretical basis for size of bale, compression frequency, length of compression chamber, power matching, structural design and strength of the compression force.
