Using line transect methods to investigate the distribution of plateau pika and the characteristics of soil and vegetation in Henan County, Qinghai. The relationship of these characteristics with plateau pika was analyzed, and the results showed that:1. From mountain top to the low wetland of a tributary, the distribution of plateau pika in different habitats, which are mountain top, slope, beach and wetlands was different. The number of the distribution was significantly lower in the wetlands than those on the top of the mountain, slope and beach(P < 0.05). The distribution of plateau pika on the slope was the highest(P < 0.05).2. In different habitats the destruction grounds of plateau pika in grassland were different and rank order is the beach > the slope > the mountain top > wetlands. There were significant differences among these four habitats(P < 0.05).3. The vegetation characteristics in the different habitats were also different. The relative density of plateau pika had a significantly negative correlation with vegetation height(P < 0.01), and a significant positive correlation with vegetation species(P < 0.05).4. The relative density of plateau pika had a significantly linear correlation with soil compactness, soil organic matter, soil moisture, soil total nitrogen, available nitrogen, total potassium and available potassium contents.5. Principal Component Analysis results showed that plant height, species, soil moisture, soil compactness, soil organic matter, soil total and available nitrogen and potassium contents were the dominant factors that affect the distribution of plateau pika.
