As the Energy Efficiency Design Index(EEDI) was put forward, energy saving and emission reduction of fisheries industry is increasingly on the agenda, which is important to the efficiency assessment of fishing vessels. As the high energy consumption industry of fishing operations, the emitted carbon dioxide is an important part of the greenhouse effect.EEDI put forward by International Maritime Organization(IMO) as a compulsory standard has been generally implemented. As the fishing vessels belong to small-medium sized vessels, the present standard is not completely applied to this kind of vessels. IMO explores the standards and reference line mathematical mode applied to the fishing vessels, which is significant to the energy saving and emission reduction of the fishing vessels and the important reference data for the future fishing vessels in the way of design and construction.This paper, based on the definition of vessels’ EEDI mathematical mode and reference line, analyzes the characteristics of fishing vessels’ shape to build the mathematical mode of fishing vessels. Specific study is as follows:First, study on fishing vessels’(mainly for trawlers, long line and purse seine vessels fishing off) ship characteristics and performance features, and the existing fishing vessels’ type and statistical data are collected for further analysis;Second, in view of the EEDI mathematical mode by IMO, and combined with the characteristics of fishing vessels, this paper puts forward the EEDI mathematical mode of different fishing vessels’ shape and give fitting lines about fishing vessels with Matlab;Third, for the proposed EEDI mathematical mode, a variety of ways are testified. And analyzes the mathematical model by the way of univariate and multivariate methods to find out what variables are the reasons of the over-large EEDI value to influence fishing vessels, and then the optimized solution is given. In order to be much simpler and clearer in the EEDI numerical calculation of fishing vessels, EEDI calculation software is designed to the future designer.Through the analysis of the characteristics of fishing vessels, fish carrying capacity instead of transport vessel carrying capacity in EEDI mathematical model given by IMO, this paper designs the EEDI reference line formula of fishing vessels, analyzing the sensitivity of EEDI formula, finding out the important reasons to influence the EEDI value of fishing vessels, and designing the EEDI calculation software for the future designer.
