Fruit industry is a pillar industry in Xinjiang’s economy, its fundamental way for development is the mechanization. But affected by the planting patterns and production methods, the development of orchard machinery is lagging behind. The paper proposed a solution to solve the existing problem that rotary tiller cannot exactly work through the space between trees. Designed a hydraulic obstacle avoidance system for rotary tiller which can change the path to avoid trees when working. Improved the rotary blade roll with computer-aided software, then produced a prototype. Paper made the following research:(1) Working principle research on orchard obstacle avoidance rotary cultivator. Through literature review and practice research, got the agronomic requirements of orchard rotary job. Summary avoidance action implementation, determine the design of orchard obstacle avoidance rotary. Then analyzed its working principle and process;(2) Design on the rotary blade roll of orchard obstacle avoidance rotary cultivator. According to special working conditions and orchard soil characteristics in southern Xinjiang, selected the rotary blade type. Based on orchard planting patterns and agronomic requirements of cultivator jobs, determine the basic parameters of rotary tiller(tillage depth and width). Then design the rotary cutter and rotary cutter shaft, determine the cutter arrangement on the shaft. Finally, complete the parameter design of the rotary blade roll of orchard obstacle avoidance rotary cultivator;(3) Static analysis and soil-cutting dynamic simulation on the rotary blade roll of orchard obstacle avoidance rotary cultivator. Establish the 3D model of rotary blade roll with SolidWorks, analyze the stress state and movement form under special conditions with ANSYS and LS-DYNA software. Research the stress and strain distribution of rotary blade, deformation and vibration of rotary blade roll, soil-cutting mechanism and energy consumption of rotary blade under avoidance working. Analyzed and discussed the simulation results, provide a theoretical basis to optimize the structure of rotary blade roll;(4) Design and research on obstacle avoidance system of orchard obstacle avoidance rotary cultivator. Designed the obstacle avoidance system with "hydraulic and machinery", including obstacle sensing mechanism, obstacle signal transmission mechanism, avoidance action actuator and hydraulic control system. Details of the working principle, implementation and adjustment method of obstacle avoidance system. Design and select the hydraulic components of hydraulic control system. Simulated and analyzed the hydraulic control system with AMESIM software, which demonstrated the correctness of system design;(5) Field test study on performance of orchard obstacle avoidance rotary cultivator. Based on national standard of NY/T 2456-2013 “rotary tiller quality evaluation of technical specifications”, measured the performance of rotary job of orchard obstacle avoidance rotary cultivator. The results show that every performance indicator were reached the design requirements and standard requirement. Tested the performance of obstacle avoidance system, the results show that the leakage rate <5% and the stability were 100% while avoidance farming under normal operating speed.
