The choose and operation of lure light in squid jigging fishery has not only impact on catch yield, but also directly connects with enterprise’s economic results. In recent years, squid stock declines as the results of strong capture effort and stock yearly change. However, fisherman ascribed this descend to low illumination comparing with other vessel which resulted in lamps abuse and competition increase in total light power year by year. Total light power of most vessel zoomed from 50 k W in early time to 200 k W, and some of them even added it to 400 k W. This competition resulted in waste the energy. And it also brings fisherman skin disorders. The strong illumination intensity forcing squid to run away may be the worst consequence. Beside, with the oil prices rising, fuel expenditure of fish aggregation lamps has accounted from 40 percent to 60 percent of total fuel consumption in a squid jigging. Environmental protection has become a popular topic in recent decades. The excessive use of internet has led to high energy consumption.Replacing high energy-consumption metal halide lamp(MHL) lamps with energy-efficiency Light Emitting Diode(LED) lights has become an inevitable trend in the field of underwater illumination in the current context of low-carbon campaigns. Traditional illumination light sources cover visible and invisible optical wavelengths and most of the invisible light makes no effect on aggregation progress. In other word, traditional illumination light sources have low efficiency underwater and must use more energy to achieve the required illumination. The development of high power issue and fast cooling technology of LED lamp have made it possible substitute for MHL. Therefore, it is necessary to study the application of LED fish aggregation lamp in the squid jigging fishery.This article tried to apply LED lamp to squid jigging gathering-fish lamp system. However, LED lamp has very directionality, so the installation angle must be accounted which had very different from MHL. The single-plate LED lamp optical axis perpendicular to its plate and the angle is a constant. When LED lamp consists of several plates, angle and efficiency of whole lamp diverse from plate’s angle. In this paper, LED fish aggregation lamp consists of several plates, and its efficiency varies with angle of plate.It is an integrated research work on application of LED fish aggregation lamp in squid jigging fishery, including mainly inter angle of LED lamp, relationship between incident angle and transmittance, optic characteristics under the sea surface and catch performance compared with traditional lamp.This paper focus on inter angle of LED lamp, relationship between incident angle and transmittance, optic characteristics under the sea surface, and briefly analyze and discuss catch performance compared with traditional lamps in the vessel.Study on relationship between incident angle and transmittance focus on solid angle and relative efficiency. Several angle combinations were set which were used in vessels now before the lamp tested in specialized machine. It shows that there is a negative relationship between light efficiency and solid angle of LED lamps. That’s mean the smaller solid angleis, the more energy is centralized. However, light efficiency reduces as result of mutual occlusion within plates. If assigning the first priority to the efficiency, it’s better to choose 15o-00o-15o combination. If solid angle, then 60o-00o-60o.Optic characteristics study includes tank test and sea surface test. In tank test, illumination intensity and spectrum were recorded by luxmeter within limited range. Sea surface test focus on the different illumination intensity and spectrum when alternately use LED and MHL. It shows that the equal illumination curve of 0.1 Lx of LED lamps could reach 35 m in horizontal direction, less 10 m distance compared with MHL; In vertical direction, illumination distributions of LED is analogous to MHL.Catch performance study focus on comparison between two vessels on catch yield and fuel consumption. Target vessel catches squid with LED, while the counterpart vessel catches with MHL.The 45-days yield showed the ship “nitai61”caught 286 tones squid, which is similar to its counterpart. LED lamps reduce fuel consumption by 60% comparing with MHL between two boats.Conclusions:1. Different angle combinations have apparent effect on luminous efficacy, it can be selected according to different target. 2. The best incidence light angle to sea surface is 53.6o, which made energy of light underwater reaches maximum. 3. Both results of water tank and sea surface experiments show that LED light has good fish aggregation effect, comparing with MHL, and will not reduce the fish output.
