Herba Asari is commonly traditional Chinese medicine. The effective components of it are volatile oils. Fingerprinting as the quality control method for the groups contain mixed materials such as Chinese patent medicine and herbal extracts, has become the international consensus.In this paper, the analysis method of Herba Asari has been confirmed, and the experiment conditions of solid powder headspace injection GC-MS have been determined. This method has been contrast with steam distillation method, too. 58 kinds of different components are detected, include 55 kinds of components are detected by steam distillation method and 42 by headspace injection method, which common peak area is 91.89% and 99.87% respectively. The relative content of low boiling point composition detected by headspace injection method is the 2.7-6.6 times which by steam distillation method. Using solid powder headspace injection GC-MS for the detection of volatile asarum components is closer to the native mode of Herba Asari, which is beneficial to the study of fingerprints-pharmacology. Analysis investigation, common peak relative content and similarity calculation were studied in this paper based on analysed 10 groups of Herba Asari. In the study, the method of solid powder headspace injection GC-MS can be satisfied the requirements of established Chinese medicine asarum fingerprint is indicated .There are 49 components of Herba Asari detected, in which 35 components are common. These common components are more than 94.48 percent in total content, which illustrated that the compositions of different kinds of Herba Asari are similar. The determination shows that methyl eugenol,α-pinene,β-pinene, safrole, 3,5-dimethoxytoluene, pentadecane, 3-carene, camphene,α-phellandrene, eucarvone, limonene, eucalyptol, myristicin,β-myrcene are the key compositions of Herba Asari in general. There’s an observably difference in the percent of contents within different samples by compares the standard deviations of the percent of the same content in different samples. It indicates that the contents of Herba Asari are affected by the changes of variety, habitat, weather condition, processing method and store condition. The cluster analysis of the detection result is accuracy to different asarum samples. The similarity of the same asarum is more than 0.9, which evaluates by the fingerprint that established with the solid powder headspace injection GC-MS method.It is an easy and fast method to establish Chinese medicine asarum fingerprint by solid powder headspace injection GC-MS. There’s no solvent residual, and the reality officinal chemical composition of Herba Asari can be reflected more accurately. This method will be the mean to identify and quality control of Herba Asari.
