Objective:To explore the influence of wall shear stress on atherosclerosis after arteriovenous fistual.Method:20cases with MHD in Xiamen Zhongshan hospital from March2013toMarch2014were collected, all the patients were treated about1to4years.bilateral forearms of all patients were divided into the fistula group and controlgroup based on internal arteriovenous fistula。Maximal blood flow velocity、diastolic diameter and intima-media thickness of radial artery in the both groupwere measured by highresolution B-mode ultrasonograph,Blood viscosity was also measured;Wall shear stress was calculated as the following equation:τm=η×4×Vm/D;the relationship between wall shear stress and atherosclerosis was analyzed.Results:All patients radial artery intima become rough,the levels of Wall shear stress in the fistula group were higher than those in the control group,the differences were statistically significant[(74.34±34.59)vs(47.11±18.85) dynes/cm2(P<0.05)];Intima-media thickness in the fistula group also were found higher than those in the control group,the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05)]. No linear correlation between intima-media thickness of the radial artery and wall shear stress.(r=0.21, P>0.05).Conclusion:This study shows that wall shear stress of radial artery increased significantly in the fistual group,this may effect the intima media thickness of radial arte ry and speed up the process of atherosclerosis in this group,the radial atherosclerosis is closely associated with wall shear stress.
