Objectives:To explore the change of ovaries with age by the three-dimensional ultrasound inhealthy women of fertile age without gynecologically symptoms.To explore the data of ovaries for healthy women of fertile age in each agegroups by the three-dimensional ultrasound.To explore the the correlation between2-dimensional ovarian data and3-dimensional ovarian data.Methods:A total of248women of18to39years old without gynecologically symptoms.and history of Infertility who had spontaneous regular monthly cycles were dividedinto4groups according to age,18-24,25-29,30-34,and35-39years old. The subjectswere measured about the height, weight, artery blood pressure,and then performed2Dgray-scale, color Doppler and3D gray-scale,3D power Doppler transvaginalultrasonic testing on cycle days3to5(early follicular phase). Uterus and adnexas ofwomen were examined with2D ultrasonography to excluded gynecology disease,corpus luteum,ovarian cyst.ovarian volume,ovarian antral follicle counts, size of thelargest follicle were real-time assessed. Three dimensional gray-scale and powerDoppler data of the ovary were collected after2D ultrasonography examination andthe data was analyzed offline with computer software. three dimensional datainclued size of the largest follicle, antral follicle counts, antral follicle volume,ovarian volume and3ovarian vascular indices.Results:There were198out of248subjects eligible for the study included in the finalresults. The difference of antral follicle counts, antral follicle volume, ovarian volumeamong4age groups was statistically significant (P <0.001) and As the growth of theage,antral follicle counts,antral follicle volume, ovarian volume decreasedsignifcantly. Difference of size of the largest follicle among4age groups was notsignificant.3ovarian vascular indices demonstrated no statistically significant amongthe various age groups in both ovaries.The ovarian volume measured by two-dimensional real-time sonography was smaller than measured by three-dimensionalVOCAL software.The number of antral follicles was less when measured bythree-dimensional SonoAVC software than2D sonography.The size of the largestfollicle was larger when measured by2D sonography than three-dimensionalSonoAVC software.The median (range) of antral follicles counts for normal women of fertile agewas23(10-58)in age18-24, The number of antral follicles was21(11-50)in age25-29,The number of antral follicles was18(5-38)in age30-34,The number of antralfollicles was12(2-20)in age35-39.The difference of antral follicle counts manifestedno significant between18-24years old and25-29years old(P=0.258). The median(range) of ovarian volume for normal women of fertile age was13.9(6.8-29.7)cm3inage18-24,The ovarian volume was13.7(6.3-29.3)cm3in age25-29, The ovarianvolume was12.7(5.0-25.3)cm3in age30-34, The ovarian volume was10.4(4.2-23.6)cm3in age35-39, The ovarian volume manifested no significant between18-24years old and25-29years old(P=0.440). The median (range) of total antralfollicle volume for normal women of fertile age was2.05(0.32-3.81)cm3in age18-24, The total antral follicle volume was1.93(0.29-3.69)cm3in age25-29, Thetotal antral follicle volume was1.59(0.18-3.02)cm3in age30-34, The total antralfollicle volume was1.28(0.12-2.30)cm3in age35-39, The total antral folliclevolume manifested no significant between18-24years old and25-29years old(P=0.553). Conclusion:The ovarian volume, antral follicle counts and total antral follicular volumeshowed downtrend significantly with increasing age for women of fertile age withoutgynecologically symptoms.3D ovarian vascular indices demonstrated no statisticallysignificant among the various age groups in both ovaries.
