Effect Of Scaling And Root Planing On MMP-8and TIMP-1Levels In Gingival Crevicular Fluid From Chronic Periodontitis Patients

The study the influence of SRP was determined on amounts of matrixmetalloproteinases-8(MM-8)and tissue inhibitiors of metalloproteinases-1(TIMP-1) ingingival crevicular fluid(GCF) from teeth with advanced chronic periodontitis.Methord: The study consisted of20teeth with advanced chronic periodontitis from7chronic periodontitis patients. The amounts of MMP-8and TIMP-1in GCF wereassayed by ELISA.Patients were treated by SRP and oral hygiene instructions.GCFMMP-8collection and clinical measurements were done before and4week after SRP.Results:SRP resulted in a statistically significant decrease in PLI,PD,BI,the volumeof GCF(P＜0.01) and CAL(P＜0.05) at4wk after treatment.No differences wereobse-observed in MMP-8and TIMP-1levels.There were negative correlation betweenMMP-8/TIMP-1ratio and PD, the amount of GCF before SRP，and betweenMMP-8/TIMP-1ratio and PLI, the amount of GCF4week after SRP(P＜0.05).Conclusions:Our observation indicated that short-term nonsurgical therapy resultedin a significant improvement in periodontal indices. MMP-8/TIMP-1ratio may can beuse for an objective evaluation index of periodontal treatment effect.
