Effect Of Smoking On The Expression Of MMP-8 And TIMP-1 In Gingival Crevicular Fluid From Patients With Chronic Periodontitis

Objective : This article will study the changes in MMP-8 and TIMP-1 under the influence of smoking on chronic periodontitis,and discuss the changes in the concentrations of MMP-8 and TIMP-1 and the ratio between the two relations.Methods: 40 periodontal patients were randomly selected as the experimental group from the Department of Periodontology,Jiamusi University Affiliated Stomatological Hospital from 2016 to 2017,including 20 in the smoking group and 20 in the non-smoking group;the control group was randomly selected students,in-service doctors and patients from the Jiamusi University Stomatological Hospital,10 in the smoking group and 10 in the non-smoking group.At the time of initial diagnosis,patients were tested for periodontal clinical parameters and collected GCF.Finally,the levels of MMP-8 and TIMP-1 in gingival crevicular fluid were measured by ELISA.Results: The results after the test showed that the MMP-8 concentration in the gingival crevicular fluid of the smoking group was 205.21?15.63?g/L in the chronic periodontitis samples.MMP-8 in GCF concentration was 191.28?9.81?g/L in the non-smoking group of periodontitis.There was a significant difference between the both groups(P<0.05).The results of periodontal health samples showed that MMP-8 in gingival crevicular fluid of smoking and non-smoking groups and the difference in concentration was not significant(P>0.05);comparing the smoking group with the non-smoking group,the results showed that the concentration of MMP-8 in the chronic periodontitis group was higher than that in the periodontal healthy group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),but the TIMP-1 concentration was not significantly different between the experimental group and the control group(P>0.05);at the same time,the results in the chronic periodontitis patients showed that the ratio of MMP-8/TIMP-1 was 2.79?0.26 in the smoking group,and the ratio in the nonsmoking group was 2.59?0.15.The results of the smoking group were significantly higher,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions: 1.Smoking can increase the concentration of MMP-8 in chronic periodontitis,and increase the destruction of periodontal tissue.2.Smoking can promote the increase of MMP-8/TIMP-1 ratio in patients with chronic periodontitis.
