ObjectiveIn this study,we use the SF-36and DLQI scales to evaluate the quality of life for118patients with alopecia areata before and after treatment of traditional Chinese medicine. We use cross-sectional study, descriptive statistical analysis and other methods to explore the quality of life of patients with alopecia areata and analyze the major influential factors,in order to improve the quality of life and efficacy of patients and enrich the clinical evaluation tools of the treatment of traditional Chinese medicine to treat alopecia areata.Methods1.An object of study:alopecia areata group (n=118) patients from March2013to December2013at the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of TCM dermatology clinic patients diagnosed with alopecia areata, control group (n=100)normal people.2. Using general items questionnair、SF-36health survey questionnaire in Chinese (translated by Department of Social Medicine, Zhejiang University School of Medicine in1991) and DLQI (Dermatology Life Quality Index) to test118outpatients with alopecia areata and100normal people. Analyzing the warious factors involved and clinical manifestations.3. Applying to packages with PASW Statistios18.0to establish a database and engage in statistical analysis, single factor analysis, descriptive analysis (t test, variance analysis), chi-square test, and using non-conditional Logistic regression analysis of the correlation between statistical analysis and impact the quality of life of patients with alopecia areata factors. Inspection standards for the two-sided test, α=0.05.Results1. After alopecia areata group of125questionnaires distributed,118questionnaires of them were recovered, so the effective response rate was94.4%; While control group of100questionnaires distributed,100questionnaires were recovered, so the effective response rate was100%.2. The scores of VT、SF、RE、MH of alopecia areata patients are significantly lower than the healthy peoples’and the difference is significant. Relapses and age relate with quality of life of alopecia areata patients.3. In addition to the aspect of itching or pain, other eight areas’s scores of DLQIof alopecia areata patients are significantly higher than the healthy peoples’and the difference is significant. Education, age, hair loss area relate with quality of life of alopecia areata patients.4. After the medical treatment, the scores of RP、GH、VT、RE、MH of alopecia areata patients are significantly improved and the difference is significant. Also the scores in DLQI, except the aspect of itching or pain and therapy, other eight areas’s scores of alopecia areata patients are significantly improved and the difference is significant.5.In TCM syndromes of alopecia areata, liver and kidney deficiency and Spleen and kidney deficiency are in a majority, which respectively were50cases (42.37%) and55cases (46.61%), and then followed by liver stagnation and blood stasis type5cases (4.24%), blood hot wind type4(3.39%), qi and blood deficiency type4cases (3.39%). The quality of patients’life with alopecia areata have significant differernce in the TCM syndromes. The score of DLQI in liver and blood stasis syndrome is the highest, the lowest is the blood hot wind syndrome. When in depression and embarrassment, the score of the liver and blood stasis syndrome is significantly higher than the other four syndromes. The same result happened in the test of SF-36.ConclutionThe quality life of alopecia areata patients, including physiology, psychology and social qunctioning in all aspects, are affected in different degree.Their quality of life significantly declined, especially in mental health. After treatment, alopecia areata patients improved significantly in all aspects of their quality of life. The quality of life of patients with alopecia areata have significant differernce in the TCM syndromes. The liver stagnation and blood stasis type is impacted most.
