Part one Relationships between serum Omentin-1levels and bone mineral density in adolescent females with anorexia nervosaObjectives:Omentin-1is a main kind of adipocytokine in circulation which plays an important role in bone metabolism in healthy people, but the relationship between omentin-1and bone metabolism in anorexia nervosa patients remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the relationship between serum Omentin-1levels and bone mineral density(BMD) in adolescent females with anorexia nervosa.Methods:26adolescent females with anorexia nervosa and24normal female controls were included in the study. Serum levels of Omentin-1, estrogen, adiponectin, leptin were determined with ELISA. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to detect the total bone mineral density of the whole body and bone mineral density of the lumbar vertebrae and hip.Results:(1) The serum Omentin-1level in adolescent females with anorexia nervosa was higher than normal female controls, and the difference was more significant (P<0.01) when body fat was adjusted. The concentrations of estrogen, leptin were lower than normal female controls (P<0.01) and the concentration of adiponectin was higher than normal female controls (P>0.05);(2) Omentin-1and adiponectin levels were negatively correlated with total BMD and BMD of the lumbar vertebrae and hip (r=-0.787,-0.792,-0.778; r=-0.343,-0.336,-0.332; p<0.05for all). Concentration of leptin was positively correlated with total BMD and BMD of the lumbar vertebrae and hip (r=0.661,0.697,0.695; p<0.01for all);(3) In multiple linear regression, Omentin-1, BMI and lean body mass were independent predict factors of BMD in study population.Conclusion:Omentin-1is an independent predict factor of BMD in adolescent anorexia nervosa patients. Part Two Relationships between serum Omentin-1levels and bone turnover markers in adolescent females with anorexia nervosaObjectives:Bone turnover markers can reflect the bone metabolism condition in human body. Bone turnover markers are suitable for diagnosis, classification and efficacy evaluation in metabolic bone diseases. Omentin-1, a new adipocytokine, plays important role in bone metabolism, though little was known about the relationships between omentin-1and bone turnover markers in anorexia nervosa patients. This study aims to investigate the relationships between serum omentin-1levels and bone turnover markers in anorexia nervosa patients.Methods:26adolescent females with anorexia nervosa and24normal female controls were included in the study. Serum levels of Omentin-1, adiponectin, leptin, bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP) and cross-linked N-telopeptides of type I collagen (NTX) were determined with ELISA.Results:(1)Omentin-1was negatively correlated with bone turnover markers BAP and NTX (r=-0.813,-0.798(P<0.01)). Serum omentin-1concentration was independently related to bone turnover markers both in females with anorexia nervosa and healthy people.(2) Adiponectin was negatively correlated with BAP and NTX (r=-0.407,-0.362(P<0.05)). Leptin was positively correlated with BAP and NTX (r=0.630,0.410(P<0.01))Conclusion:Omentin-1was negatively correlated with bone turnover markers. It indicates that omentin-1can inhibit bone formation, which results in reduced bone mass in adolescent females with anorexia nervosa.
