Background Laryngectomy and follow-up treatment brought patients with larynx carcinoma a lot of adverse effects. Researchers often use scales or questionnaires to measure these effects, the limited clauses are difficult to do a comprehensive interpretation of the patient’s life experience. Qualitative research is highly sensitive to the patient’s subjective feelings, showing irreplaceable advantages.Current research concerns the long-term survival of patients with total laryngectomies, ignoring the patients who had partial laryngectomy or discharged in the short term.Objective To describe the patient’s experiences as they discharged in the short term following laryngectomy surgery and identify their health problem, then put forward specific nursing interventions to help the patients return to society better.Method Using phenomenological method, purposive sampling method and in-depth interviews to collected the data.14patients who discharged within a short term were recruited before the date information reached to saturation, use the induction method analyze the data.Result Analyze the data, five main themes were extracted:basic physiological needs limited, emotional distress, social withdrawal phenomenon, ways to face the trauma, the knowledge of recovery is poorConclusion Patients with laryngectomies discharged in short term face major problems, clinical staff should give timely support and care to help them return to society better.
