National Annual Report of Adverse Drug Reaction Surveillance (2013) shows an increasing tendency of insecurity of using drugs and popularity of inappropriate uses of medicines in China. It Alters health care workers and patients to this situation. They are suggested to strengthen the awareness of using drugs safely, and of the prevention of using drugs inappropriately. The risk of appraising drug usage also calls their attention.Research objectives:An investigation of the profiles of blood transfusion caused by the drug-induced damage, risk factors and preventive measures is carried out so as to provide evidence for clinical safety, rational drug use and reduction of waste of medical resources.Research methods:213 cases of blood transfusion caused by the drug-induced damage from Departments of Surgery, Gastroenterology, and Pediatrics in TCM Hospital of Pu Yang, ranging the period of May 2012 to May 2014 have been collected. An analysis of these cases has been carried out through drug database profile questionnaire in terms of the profile of the patients, their underlying disease, previous medical history, drug allergies, medications (drug name, dosage, treatment, route of administration, etc.), relevant laboratory test results, relevant functional text results, and the time, symptoms & treatment of drug-induced damage.Research results:The general profile of the patients is that among 213 cases, there are 87maie patients cases,126 female patients cases, and the male to female ratio is 1: 1.45. Among these patients, the maximum age is 88 years old, while the minimum age is6 years old with a mean age of 56.42±10.88 years old. The older group (≥65 years old) occupies the highest proportion of 53.9%, followed by the youth group (23 to 45 years old), the proportion of 26.7%. Medication treatments> 12 weeks total 163 cases,76.5% of the total number of cases. The status of drug-induced damage is that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs account for 43.9%, cold medicine accounting for 22.7%, hormone drugs accounting for 12.3%, Chinese medicine accounting for 10.7%, and anticoagulant drugs accounting for 6.8%. Transfusion types include 93 cases of gastrointestinal bleeding (43.7%), thrombocytopenia 46 cases (21.6%), pancytopenia 42 cases (19.7%),32 cases of hemolytic anemia (15.0%). The consequences are that 199 cases were cured (93.4%),10 cases were improved (4.7%), and 4 cases (1.9%) died.Conclusion:1. the highest incidence of drug-induced blood transfusion is the older group, accounting for 53.9%, followed by the youth group, accounting for 26.7%. Most of the older group of drug-induced transfusion medicine appear in the third month, while the cases of youth group are mostly caused by excessive self-medication.2. Irrational drug use and non-timely review of relevant laboratory parameters to adjust the medication are major predisposing factors causing drug-induced blood transfusion. Drugs such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, cold medicine, hormone drugs are the most common ones in causing drug-induced blood transfusion.
