ObjectiveBy investigating the clinical epidemiology of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome in chronic cerebral circulation insufficience (CCCI), so as to clarify the TCM syndrome characteristics in CCCI patient and further provide the basis for TCM prevention and treatment in CCCI patient.Object and methodsThe 100 CCCI patients collected from neurology, geriatrics and physiatry department in Jianou City Hospital of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine were firstly diagnosed according to the CCCI diagnostic criteria formally issued by the sixteenth Stroke Society holded in Janpan on 2000, and then grouped by differentiating syndrome using the combination diagnostic thinking of TCM and combined with the famous TCM doctor’s clinical syndrome differentiation method in our department. The deficient syndrome was diagnosed according to 《Deficiency syndrome of traditional Chinese medicine dialectical reference standard》 revised by Deficiency syndrome and Senile Disease Research Committee of national traditional Chinese and Western medicine combined on 1996 and empirical syndrome was diagnosed according to 《Guiding principle of clinical research on new drugs of traditional Chinese Medicine》 and the relevant teaching material in colleges and universities. Meanwhile, the patient’s related disease and the neck vascular ultrasound data were analysised, so as to discuss the correlation between the above factors and its main syndromes. The data were analysised by SPSS 13.0 statistical software.Results1. CCCI patients often present aged from 50-70 year with hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipemia.78 patients which accounted for 78% were diagnosed with hypertension, and the patients who had a complication of diabetes or hyperlipemia were accounted for 33% or 34%, respectively. Atherosclerosis can be detected in vertebral artery and carotid artery among the patients by the neck vascular ultrasound.2. The phlegm stasis syndrome is usually seen in CCCI patients with empirical syndrome, among that phlegm and blood stasis is much more, account for 42%. Deficiency of vital energy and kidney deficiency are the main performance in deficient syndrome, and kidney qi deficiency is the main performance, account for 47%. Besides, the CCCI patients always accompany with hepatic asthenia and deficiency of yin. The TCM syndrome distribution are as followed. Among superficiality excess syndrome, syndrome of asthenia in origin, and syndrome of asthenia in origin and asthenia in superficiality, the syndrome of asthenia in origin and asthenia in superficiality is the main performance. And phlegm and blood stasis is the main performance in superficiality excess syndrome. The kidney qi deficiency is the main performance in deficient syndrome. The kidney deficiency phlegm and blood stasis is the main performace in syndrome of asthenia in origin and asthenia in superficiality.3. The proportion of the patients with hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipemia were higher in syndrome of asthenia in origin and asthenia in superficiality than the patients with superficiality excess syndrome or syndrome of asthenia in origin. The patients with carotid artery atherosclerotic has the same tend.ConclusionThe CCCI patients often accompany with hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipemia, which are required regulated in the treatment of CCCI. And the main TCM syndrome are kidney deficiency phlegm and blood stasis. The corresponding treatment methods are tonifying kidney qi and promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis. Some patients with hepatic asthenia and deficiency of yin also could be seen, and nourishing yin drug is necessary in the treatment.
