Abstract/Summary:
ObjectiveThrough this clinical research, observe the therapeutic effect between the treatment group and the control group. Compare their symptoms of Yang-deficient acne and Yang-deficient Constitution Integration in both groups before and after treatment, and objectively obtain more effective use of acupuncture therapy of Acne of Yang-Deficiency Constitution.MethodsA randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted for the study-60 Yang-Deficiency Constitutional acne patients were randomly allocated to two groups to receive different acupuncture treatment. The treatment group is 30 patients who were given Navel Moxibustion plus Surrounding Puncture on Ashi Points and regulating imbalanced Yang-deficiency constitution points. The control group is the other 30 patients who were given Surrounding Puncture on Ashi Points plus regulating imbalanced Yang-deficiency constitution points. Patiens in the treatment group were given treament on the following acupoints: Moxibustion on salt and ginger was used on Shenque (RN 8), Ashi points (surrounding puncture), Qihai(RN 6) (male only), Guanyuan (RN4) (female only), Pishu (BL 20), Shenshu (BL 23), Mingmen (DU 4),Yongquan (KI 1). Patiens in the control group were given treament on the following acupoints:Ashi points (surrounding puncture), Qihai (RN6) (male only), Guanyuan (RN4) (female only), Pishu (BL 20), Shenshu (BL 23), Mingmen (DU 4), Yongquan (KI 1). All patients were given treatment every 4 days, and the whole course of treatment consists of 16 treatments. The overall effectiveness was observed after full treatment. The experiment data have been analyzed by STATA/SE11.0 software package. The count data have been analyzed by Chi-Square Test, measurement data by T-Test, and the level data by Non-parametric Test.ResultsThe overall rate of effectiveness of the treatment for the treatment group is 93.33%, and 76.67% for the control group. The results of the experiment have been found statistically significant (P<0.05). As regards the improvement of damaged-skin lesions:significantly reduced damaged-lesion integration has been achieved in both the treatment group and the control group, when comparing the before and after treatment from GAGS. The difference is statistically significant (P<0.05). But the treatment for the treatment group has obtained better therapeutic results for the subjects by further improving their damaged-skin lesions. In terms of the conversion points of Yang-deficiency Constitution items, constitution integration dropped to a large extent in the treatment group (P<0.05), but no significant decrease was observed in the control group (P>0.05). Comparing the conversion points of the two groups, and there was significant difference between them (P<0.05), meaning that the constitution-regulating treatment had further improvement to patients’ constitution.ConelusionThe therapeutic results of the two types of treatment for the treatment group and The control group have been found satisfactory. However, this research shows that the treatment for the treatment group worked better in relieving symptoms and improving the Yang-deficiency constitution of acne patients. The recurrence rate of the treatment group was also significantly lower than the control group (P<0.05). According to TCM Theory of "Treating Disease Both from Manifestation and Root Cause", the therapy of Navel Moxibustion and Surrounding Puncture on Ashi Points plus traditional acupuncture can greatly relieve patients’anxiety and improve their quality of life. Hence, it is believed to be an effective and safe therapy to cure the Yang-deficiency constitution of acne patients.
