ObjectiveTo explore the current status and change trend of nutrition knowledge, attitude, practice(KAP) among the students of Nutrition improvement plan pilot areas according to the implementation status of the rural compulsory education students, nutrition improvement plan in Henan, to analyze the impacts of “the plan” on nutrition and dietary behaviors of students in rural areas, to discover the deficiency in the process of plan implementation, so as to put forward some pertinent suggestions. Methods By means of questionnaire survey and convenient cluster sampling method, 2 pilot areas in Zhoukou were selected in April 2013 and April 2014. 4 schools including 2 primary schools and 2 middle schools were chosen from each pilot area. The students of Grade 4~6 and Grade 7~9 from these 8 schools were selected, and the sample size of each grade was more than 70. SPSS 21.0 was used to do analysis including descriptive analysis, variance of analysis, t-test, Chi-square test, correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis. Results 1. The average scores of nutrition knowledge, attitude, practice and the total score of KAP were(6.46 ± 3.24),(12.81 ± 4.95),(5.39 ± 3.70),(24.65 ± 8.49) in 2013. The scores of nutrition knowledge and attitude of the primary schools students were lower than junior high school group, and the score of nutrition behavior was higher than junior high school group(P<0.05). The scores of nutrition knowledge and attitude of boys were lower than girls(P <0.05), and the score of nutrition behavior was lower than girls(P> 0.05).2. The score of nutrition knowledge(7.35 ± 2.99) in 2014 was higher than 2013(P<0.05). The score of attitude part(12.97 ± 5.13) and the KAP total score(24.87 ± 8.88) were higher than 2013(P>0.05), and the score of practice(4.56 ± 3.59) was lower than 2013(P<0.05). The comparison of proportion rate of ranked distribution of attitude score and KAP total score between 2013 and 2014 showed no statistical significance(P>0.05), and the comparison of nutrition knowledge and practice showed statistical significance(P<0.05). The proportion of "poor" level of nutrition knowledge was the highest, the "good" level of nutrition attitude was the highest, and the "normal" level of nutrition practice and nutrition KAP total score were the highest.3. In 2014, 20.3% of the students disliked nutritious meals. Primary school students accounted for 15%, and junior high school students accounted for 24.7%. 17.0% of the students wasted nutritious meals. Primary school students accounted for16.6%, and junior high school students accounted for 17.2%. Among the wasted food, eggs ranked the first, followed by the milk. Some students even pointed out that the milk tasted bad.4. In 2013 and 2014, TV was the main way to gain nutrition knowledge for primary and middle school students, followed by books, doctors, lectures. The most desirable way to get nutrition knowledge was through lectures, followed by TV, books, doctors. Conclusions 1. In 2014, the level of students, nutrition knowledge has increased. Nutrition attitudes remain good, but the level of nutrition practice has decreased. Nutrition health education work should be more targeted.2. The phenomenon of wasting food is serious when the students eat nutritious meals. It is necessary to strengthen nutrition and health education in schools.3. In 2014, the most desirable way to gain nutrition knowledge for students is inconsistent with the current main way. Lectures on nutrition knowledge need to be strengthened.
