Purpose:To investgive the expression of pericyte in salivary adenoid cystic carcinomas and its relationship with clinical pathology. Methods:Pathological sections of 27 patients were divided into two groups which each patient has two pathological sections.Group A was stained by both a-SMA and CD34 of which were measured by microvessel density (MVD),microvessel pericyte density (MPD),pericyte coverage of vessel (PCV) in microscope unit visions.Group B was stained by anti-VEGF antibody and was measured by integral optical density IOD with Image-Pro Plus 6.0.Each sections was divided into tumour center area (T center) and tumour periphery area(T edge).According to the different clinical characteristics, patients were subgrouped and of which statistical analysis and correlation were carried out using SPSS 17.0 among different groups.Results:(1) There was no significant difference of VEGF among the patient’s sex, age, clinical stage, tumour location, tumour size, infringements, metastasis and tumour recurrence. The expression of VEGF in T center was higher than T edge(P=0.000).(2)There was no significant difference of MVD among the patient’s age, clinical stage, tumour location, tumour size, infringements, metastasis, tumour recurrence and tumour regions. The expression of MVD in male was higher than female (P=0.000).(3)There was no significant difference of MPD among the patient’s sex, age, clinical stage, tumour location, tumour size, infringements, metastasis and tumour recurrence. The expression of MPD in T center was lower than T edge(P=0.000).(4) There was no significant difference of PCV among the patient’s sex, age, clinical stage, tumour location, tumour size, infringements, metastasis and tumour recurrence. The expression of PCV in T center was lower than T edge(P=0.000).(5) There was no significant correlation of VEGF with MVD,MPD nor PCV. The P values were 0.376,0.094,and 0.122.Conclusions:In the salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma(1) The expression of VEGF in T center is higher than T edge;(2) The expression of MVD in male is higher than female;(3) The expression of MPD in T center is lower than T edge;(4) The expression of PCV in T center is lower than T edge.Pericyte palys an important role during the development and metastasis in salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma.Purpose:To evaluate the effects of using gelatin sponge or iodoform gauze in relief incisions on palatorrhaphy. Methods:A literature research was performed using Wanfang database, Chinese Biological Literature database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journals database of VIP, PubMed, Web of Science, Elsevier, and all EBM Reviews since January 2000 to June 2014. Odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated and Meta analysis was performed by Statal 1.0.Results:A total of 8 controlled studies and 1042 patients were included. Meta analysis showed no significant difference between gelatin sponge and iodoform gauze of relief incisions in palatorrhaphy treatment on recovery [OR=2.58,95%CI (0.89,7.50), P=0.081].But there were significant differences on primary bleeding [OR=0.45,95%CI(0.22,0.91), P=0.027], secondary bleeding [OR=0.16,95%CI (0.09,0.31), P=0.000], postoperative fever [OR=0.32,95%CI (0.22,0.48), P=0.000], and fever more than two days [OR=0.25,95%CI (0.12,0.49), P=0.000]Conclusions:Compared with iodoform gauze, gelatin sponge can reduce primary and secondary bleeding, relieve postoperative fever and reduce duration of fever. It is better to stuff the relief incisions during palatorrhaphy with gelatin sponge rather than iodoform gauze.
