Aim:This article systematically combs relative records in ancient and modernliterature and summaries the origin and development of ancient shallow acupuncture andpractical methods and types of modern subcutaneous acupuncture so as to supply basalacademic research and clinical practice of shallow acupuncture with model.Method:This article cardings the way of shallow acupuncture recorded in ancientacupuncture documents and definite process of modern subcutaneous acupuncture. Inaddition, the mechanism of subcutaneous acupuncture and its revelation to modern clinicalacupuncture are analysed and discussed.Result:Ancient documental research on acupuncture indicates that among ancientcommon acupuncture methods, shallow acupuncture account for the majority. The theoryand clinical practice of modern subcutaneous acupuncture has realistic sense to modernclinical acupuncture. The theory and practice of subcutaneous acupuncture indicates thatthe depth of acupuncture should fit in that of disease and the feeling of acupuncture thatdoesn’t mean sour, swell or numb.Conclusion:Subcutaneous acupuncture has the features as safe, effective and painless,so it has obvious clinical advantage, which is worth further research.
