ObjectiveAccurate preoperative staging and rectal cancer treatment plan and prognosis are closely related, This study intends to explore the diagnosis value between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) in preoperative staging of rectal cancer patients.MethodsRetrospectively analyzed from August2013to December201367cases of patients with rectal cancer in the first affiliated hospital of Guangxi medical university. Patients with preoperative MRI and TRUS, Separately checked based on MRI and TRUS for rectal cancer imaging T and N stages, and radical surgery with TME after a week, T and N stages compared with postoperative pathological staging results, the data analysised with statistical software SPSS13.0processing.Results1. Of67cases colorectal cancer (39male and female28cases, aged21to80, an average of55.91±12.74years old).3cases Miles, and64cases Dixon; with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma in5cases, moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in12cases, well-differentiated adenocarcinomas in2cases, mucous adenocarcinoma in1case, tubular adenocarcinoma in41cases, papillary adenocarcinoma in2cases, villous adenocarcinoma in3, signet ring cell carcinoma in1case.2. MRIT staging of rectal cancer infiltration depth judgment accuracy rate was55.2%(37/67)(Kappa consistency examination with the pathological results analysis, Kappa=0.343), TRUS was74.6%(Kappa=0.619), the accuracy in T staging statistically significant between MRI and TRUS (X2=5.538, P=0.019<0.05).3. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for N staging of judgment of the total accuracy was71.6%(Kappa consistency examination with the pathological results analysis, Kappa=0.543), the sensitivity of100%, specificity of62.5%, TRUS total accuracy was61.2%(Kappa=0.222), sensitivity44.4%, specificity of77.5%. N staging accuracy was no statistical difference between MRI and TRUS (X2=1.639, P=1.639).ConclusionTRUS has more superiority compared with MRI in local infiltration depth assessment of rectal cancer referred to pathological results.MRI more accurately than TRUS in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer lymph node metastasis, but no statistical difference, and the accuracy are yet to be further improved.
