This dissertation is composed of two chapters. Chapter1reviewed recent progress on the genus Tripterygium. The investigation on chemical constituents of Tripterygium wilfordii was reported in chapter2.Tripterygium wilfordii Hook f.(Tripterygium), is a woody vine, native to Southern and Eastern China, Japan and Korea, also known as huangtengmu, huanglateng, huangteng and duanchangcao etc. In traditional Chinese medicine, it has a long history of use for the treatment of fever, swelling, chills, sores, inflammation and joint pain. In China, Preparations of Tripterygium wilfordii began to be used in allopathic medicine in the1960s to treat inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Since then they have also been used for chronic nephritis, cancer, hepatitis, ankylosing spondylitis, a variety of skin conditions and systemic lupus erythematosus. Medicinal chemical analysis has shown that, Tripterygium wilfordii contains a great number of natural products with strong biological activities, which are the material basis in traditional and allopathic medicine in China。Therefore, the investigation on the chemical constituents of Tripterygium wilfordii was reported in this dissertation. Totally,15compounds were isolated and purified from Tripterygium wilfordii by ODS, Silica gel comlumn chromatography, HPLC and Sephadex LH-20. Among them,7compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectral data. The types of the compounds included diterpene glucopyranosides, diterpenes, lignans and aromatic compounds.16-hydroxytriptobenzene H18-β-D-glucopyranoside (1*) and11,14-dihydroxy-19-β-D-glucopyranosyl-abieta-8,11,13-triene-3-one (2*) were new compounds, The known ones were idetified as Tripterinin (3),4-hydroxy-3-methoxy benzoic acid (4),3-methoxy-4-hydroxybenzenemethanol (5),3,4-dimethoxyphenyl-β-D-glucoside (6) and1,2-bis-(3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,3-propanediol(7).
