| Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant tumor of the oral mucosa, and it is increasingly common worldwide and represents an increasing threats on health.SO finding the early diagnosis biomarker and effective method of treatment of OSCC, has very important implications for OSCC prevention and treatment. The mainstay of treatment is surgery, with adjuvant radiotherapy or chemotherapy used when indicated according to tumor location and the level of malignancy. With the development of molecular biology, people have realized that variety of genetic changes have been correlated to malignant transformation of potentially malignant oral lesions. Programmed cell death4(PDCD4) is a novel tumor suppressor gene that was originally identified as a gene upregulated during apoptosis. The downregulation or loss of PDCD4expression is representative of the malignant potential of malignant tumor including the proliferative activity. Furthermore, PDCD4can be an important biomarker and therapeutic target for malignant tumor. The expression of PDCD4in OSCC has not been reported in China. Objective This study will investigate the expression of PDCD4in OSCC and normal oral mucosa tissues, and analyze the interrelationship between the malignant degrees of OSCC,lymph node metastasis and the expression of PDCD4.Methods S-P immunohistochemistry was used to investigate PDCD4protein expression in54cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma and15cases of normal oral mucosa tissue, analyze the expression of PDCD4with clinical data by using SPSS17.0.Results(1)The positive rate of PDCD4protein was significantly lower in oral squamous cell carcinomas than that in normal oral mucosa tissues(P<0.01).(2)There was no statistical significance of the expression of PDCD4between well and moderately histological differentiation (P>0.05).The expression of PDCD4in OSCC with poor histological differentiation was very low, and it was lower than those of well and moderately differentiated(P<0.01). There was no statistical significance of the expression of PDCD4between the groups with different lymph node metastasis(P>0.05).Conclusion(1)The expression level of PDCD4is significant lower in OSCC than in normal oral mucosa tissues. (2)The expression of PDCD4protein was no relationship to lymph node metastasis, but the down-regulated expression of PDCD4protein was correlated with the pathogenesis and development in OSCC. |
