Purpose: To discuss the application and significance of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in retinalartery occlusion (RAO) and he inner retinal thickness and visual acuity patients whether there is acorrelation. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed twenty-seven patients (sixteen men, eleven women) with RAO whowere treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Medical College of Shihezi University between July2010and November2013. The patients’ ages ranged from37to83(average,60.65years); cases with seventeenright eyes and ten left eye. We collected patients’ admission time, initial visual acuity, after-treatment ofvisual acuity, retinal thickness in the macular are. We also used OCT to measure and analyze retinal meanthickness of macular, also the3mm and6mm up, down, nasal, temporal to the foveola. The thickness ofinner retinal layer was measured manually. In the inner retinal layer,1mm nasal and temporal to the foveola(Figs. N1, T1);3mm nasal and temporal to the foveola (Figs. N3, T3). Values are given as mean standarddeviation. Mean values were compared using the student’s t-test with the level of significance set at P<0.05.The correlation of level data were using the Spearman’s correlation with the level of significance set at P<0.05.Results: The visual acuity of19/27patients was improved in different degree. After treatment of centralretinal artery occlusion in patients with initial visual acuity, the difference was statistically significant (P=0.035<0.05). Age, suffering from systemic disease conditions had no effect on vis ual acuity patientseventually (P=0.091>0.05). The unhealthy eyes were thicker than the healthy ones at N1, N3and T3(P<0.05); Compared with the healthy eyes, the unhealthy eyes which retinal thickness under the maculararea and3mm nasal have statistical difference (P<0.05); The different values that thickness in the fovea ofhealthy and unhealthy eyes which have a negative correlation with visual acuity of after treatment, r=-0.740(P<0.05); The different values of N1and T3in healthy and unhealthy eyes also have a negative correlationwith visual acuity of after treatment, r(N1)=-0.692, r(T3)=-0.657(P<0.05). Branch retinal artery occlusiondata were compared among groups and correlation analysis, the results were not statistically significant. Conclusion: OCT to measure and analyze retinal mean thickness of macular and inner retinal layer, suggests that the degree of retinal edema at macular area has a negative correlation with the prognosis ofvisual acuity. OCT examinations in CRAO provide good implications for visual acuity of after-treatment.
