The Study Of Demographic Characteristics And STD-related High Risk Behaviors Among MSM In Changshu, Jiangsu Province, China

Objective1. To understand the demographic characteristics, status, high-risk behaviors ofMSM in Changshu county.2. To understand the prevalence relate of HIV and syphilis among MSM.3. To analysis the epidemic situation and STD-related factors among MSM.4. To provide scientific evidence for enacting police on STD prevention andcontrol of MSM.Method1. MSM who is living in Changshu county over6months and older than18yearswas targeted.2.291MSMs were recruited as research subjects by respondent-driven samplingmethod.3. Face to face questionnaire survey and serum detection was adopted.4. Survey covers demographic characteristics, status， HIV and syphilisdetection, STD-related high risk behaviors of MSM.5. Professionals were trained as investigators.6. Primary statistical indicators and senior statistical indicators were calculatedwith appropriate statistical methods.7. The conclusion was based on statistical analysis of results and was inaccordance with the appropriate law and rules of logical inference.Result1. Demographic characteristics 291respondents are between18-64years with an average age of29.2±6.8years.37.1%were local residents,69.1%were unmarried,99.0%were Han ethnicalgroup,42.6%were well educated in high school or above, farmers and migrant workersaccounted for38.5%.45.4%had earnings of1000-3000yuan monthly, the network wasthe primary way to find sexual partners.91.4%were regarded as gay.2. Serum detectionOf the291MSMs,7.8%were infected with HIV while11.9%were syphilis.3. Findings on STD-related high risk factors223(76.6%)respondents had homosexual anal sex with an average of2.49±1.98same sex members in the latest6months, in which,26.5%MSMs had never usedcondoms,52.9%used condoms occasionally, only20.6%used condoms every time, therate of condom usage in the last anal sex was35.4%.6.9%MSMs paid for commercialsex with men at an average of2.2±1.172members, in which25.0%never used condoms.The rate of providing commercial sex to men was0.7%.15.5%respondents had sex withfemale in the latest6months with an average of1.12±0.118members., in which75.6%never used condoms,11.7%didn’t use condoms in the last homosexuals.77.3%haddrunk alcoholic often or occasionally in the latest6months, in which41.1%drunkbefore or between having sex,30.9%didn’t use condoms for alcoholic drinking. Thecoverage rate of AIDS-related service was91.4%,7.6%MSMs hadCircumcision.35.1%attended HIV antibody test, the rate of AIDS-related knowledgeknowing was83.5%.4. Influencing Factors of STD-related high risk behavior.According to single-factor and non-conditional logistic regression analysis, theFactors influencing the last6months anal sex were age of first homosexuals,knowledge about AIDS; the Factors influencing the last6months unprotected anal sexwere education level, sex orientation, marriage, and AIDS-related service. Educationlevel had associated with the last unprotected anal sex.Conclusion1. The situation of AIDS, syphilis prevention and controlling in Changshu Countywas extremely serious.2. The rate of condom usage was low, and unprotected anal sex occurred veryoften. 3. Some MSMs also had sex with female, the bridge role of which could not beneglected.4. Education level, sex orientation, marriage, AIDS-related service were theinfluencing factors of occurring unprotected anal sex.
