Objectives: To research the diagnostic value of the nerve conduction velocity(NCV),sympathetic skin response(SSR) and the two methods together in diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN), and analyze the risk factors of DPN.Methods: 1.354 patients with type 2 diabetes(T2DM)from our hospital’s endocrinology by the year of 2013 were selected in our research(they all had been in accordance with the WHO diagnostic criteria for type 2 diabetes in l999). All patients were inspected with tests of NCV and SSR, then to analyze the abnormal rate of these methods according to the result. 2. The patients were divided into two groups according to the results of the tests, DPN group and NDPN group. The following factors were compared between the two groups: gender, age, body mass index(BMI), smoking, duration of diabetes, total cholesterol(TC), triglycerides(TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C), fasting plasma glucose(FPG), plasma glucose 1 hours after meal(lh PG), plasma glucose 2 hours after meal(2h PG), glycated hemoglobin(Hb A1c), fasting insulin(FINS), insulin 1 hour after the meal(lh INS), insulin 2 hours after meal(2FINS), fasting C peptide(FC-P), C peptide 1 hour after meal(lh C-P), C peptide 2 hours after meal(2h C-P), arterial atherosclerosis, diabetic microvascular complications(Diabetic Nephropathy and Diabetic Retinopathy). The independent sample t test was used to analyze the Measurement data, chi-square test was used to analyze the counting data, the difference was statistically significant when P < 0.05. 3. The grouping variable and the statistical significant factors between the two groups were subject to the logistic regression. Results: 1. The abnormal rate of NCV, SSR and NCV together with SSR was 56.2%, 32.8% and 64.4%. the abnormal rate of SSR and NCV together was higher, the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).87 patients were abnormal in both of NCV and SSR, 112 patients were abnormal in NCV and were normal in SSR, and 29 patients were abnormal in SSR and at the same time were normal in NCV. 2. The difference of age, duration of diabetes, 2h PG, arterial atherosclerosis, diabetic microvascular complications between DPN and NDPN group were statistically significant(P < 0.05). 3. Diabetic microvascular complications were the independent risk factor of DPN in the Logistic regression analysis(p=0.000, OR=2.2595, 95%CI=1.577~4.271).Conclusion: 1. SSR together with NCV was obviously better to improve the diagnostic detection rate of DPN in T2 DM. 2. Advanced age, long duration of diabetes, uncontrolled 2h PG and arterial atherosclerosis, diabetic microvascular complications were the risk factors of DPN in T2 DM, diabetic microvascular complications were the independent risk factors of DPN in T2 DM.
