AIM: Poly β-hydroxybutyrate(PHB) was a aliphatic polyester produced by a number of bacteria which had many special properties such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, piezoelectric property and so on.METHOD: We researched characterizations of biodegradable polyhydroxybutyrate elastomer and its cellular compatibility with L-929 cell. The characterization of polyhydroxybutyrate elastomer was tested.RESULT: The sticking, proliferating and morphologic changes of the cells were not affected when we planted L-929 cells in PHB-PEG multi-block copolymers, high or ordinary temperature. No cytotoxic substances were observed. Its cellular compatibility was very well.CONCLUSION: PHB-PEG may be used as a biomaterial in medicine.
