There are about 1000 species of Ficus in the world, only Ficus pumila and Ficus carica being used as food and drug. The stems and leaves of F. pumila have been used as a Chinese folk medicine for treating rheumatic arthralgias and promoting blood circulationto remove meridian obstruction and the resulting gel of fruit is locally referred as “Liangfen” and sold as a summer drink for hundreds of years. The root, stem and leaf of F. carica are important medicinal herbs in use and the fruit is edible. Based on the related literature, there are some reported about chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of F. carica but rarely about F. pumila. So we studied on chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of the stems of F. pumila, which will provide a theoretical basis for the development and utilization of the F. pumila.30 compounds(1- 30) were isolated and puried from stems of F. pumila by means of silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20, HPLC, ODS etc. The structures of the isolated compounds were identified by spectrum technology(NMR, HRESIMS, HR and UV) and compared with literature reports. 5-aldehyde-4?-hydroxy-2,2?-dimethoxybiphenyl(1),(6S*,7E,9Z)-6,10-dihydroxy-7,9-pentadienyl-4-cyclohexen-3-one(2),(6R,7E)-4,7-megastigmadien-3,9-dione(3),(6R,7E,9R)-9-hydroxy-4,7-megastigmadien-3-one(4),(6S,7E)-6-hydroxy-4,7-megastigmadien-3,9-dione(5), vomifoliol(6), vomifoliol acetate(7), cis, trans-abscisic acid(8), 4-megastigment-3,9-dione(9), 8,9-dihydro-8,9-dihydroxymegastigmatrienone(10),(E,4R)-4-hydroxy-4,5,5-trimethyl-3-(3-oxobut-1-enyl)cyclohex-2-enone(11), 14 know flavonoids: 5,7-dihydroxychromone(12),(S)-naringenin(13), eriodicytol(14), apigenin(15), chrysoeriol(16), 5,7,4′-trihydoxyisoflavone(17), 5,7,2′-triidroxi-4′-metoxiisoflavona(18), lupinisoflavone C(19), ficuisoflavone(20), 5,7,4′-trihydroxy-3′-(3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyl)isoflavone(21), 5,7,4′-trihydroxy-3′-(2-hydroxy-3-methyl-3-butenyl)-isoflavone(22), alpinum isoflavone(23), derrone(24),(+)-catechin(25), and 4 other compounds: stigmast-4-ene-6?-ol-3-one(26), stigmast-4-ene-6?-ol-3-one(27), 3?-hydroxysitost-5-en-7-one(28), bergaten(29), 4-acetonyl-3,5-dimerhoxy-p-quinol(30). The 1 and 2 were new compounds. There were three kinds of compounds with sesquiterpenoids 2- 11, flavonoids 12- 24 and other compounds 25- 30. Compounds 5, 14, 17- 21, 29 and 30 were isolated from the Ficus genus for the first time. In addition to 13 and 15, the other compounds were isolated from F. pumila for the first time.Compounds 10 and 11 exhibited activity against Escherichia coli with MIC values of 1.25 μg/mL, compounds 15 and 23 showed activity against MCF-7 with IC50 values of 32.5 and 37.3 ?g/mL.
