This paper consists of three chapters. The first chapter discusses antioxidant activity and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of Radix Paeoniae Rubra(RPR). extracts and compounds in vitro. The second chapter studied the hypoglycemic effect of RPR extracts with allxan-induced diabetic mice model. The third chapter, summarized the pharmacological research on RPR.Chapter I α-Glucosidase inhibitory and antioxidant activity for Radix Paeoniae Rubra extracts and comoundsin vitro.α-Glucosidase inhibitory activity of RPR was screened by 96-microplate method in vitro. Results indicated that Petroleum ether extract(IC50=75.52±4.53 μg/m L), Ethyl extract(IC50=11.05±1.88 μg/m L), Butanol extract(IC50=39.36±0.00 μg/m L) 、1,2,3,4,6-pentagalloylglucose(IC50=15.34±0.93 μg/m L) had a good inhibitor activity of α-glucosidase, which was lower that of Acarbose(IC50=1083.86±92.02 μg/m L). Ethyl extract of RPR is the best.Antioxidant activity was assyed using DPPH, ABTS, FRAP and protecting membrane method with microplate quantification experiment modles. Results showed that Ethyland n-Butanol extract, 1,2,3,4,6-pentagalloylglucose and protocatechuic acid were higher activity than that of PG, BHT and BHA as positvie control.Chapter II The hypoglycemic effect and antioxidant of Radix Paeoniae Rubra. This chapter, hypoglycemic effect of RPR extracts was investigated. Results showed that all extracts significantly decreased fasting plasma glucose( p<0.01 and p<0.05, respectively), but the effect to postprandial blood glucose was not obvious. All of the extract obviously improved the level of liver glycogenin( p<0.001, p<0.01 and p<0.05, respectively), significantly increased the level of SOD in mice serum and reduce the level of MDA、TCH and TG.Chapter III Pharmacological Research for Radix Paeoniae Rubra. The progress of pharmacological research for RPR was summarized.
