Objective:To compare the therapeutic effects after endoscopic surgery between using the plasma radiofrequency ablation at low temperature and the electric cutter suction drilling or Caldwell Luc combined approach in patients with nasal inverted papilloma.Method : The clinical data of 52 patients with nasal inverted papilloma were analyzed from the Otolaryngology Department of Central Hospital of Dalian, who underwent endoscopic surgery using the plasma radiofrequency ablation at low temperature or the electric cutter suction drilling or Caldwell Luc combined approach from May, 2008 to December, 2011.34 patients after endoscopic surgery using the plasma radiofrequency ablation were selected as the experimental group(according to Krouse classification, there are 8 cases of grade I, 20 cases of grade II, 6 cases of grade III and no patients of grade IV).18 patients after endoscopic surgery using the electric cutter suction drilling or Caldwell Luc combined approach the plasma radiofrequency ablation were selected as the control group(according to Krouse classification, there are 5 cases of grade I, 10 cases of grade II, 3 cases of grade III and no patients of grade IV).We compared the operation time, bleeding volume, wound healing time, pain and recurrence after surgery between the two different operation methods.Sults : Two sets of data of operation time, bleeding volume and pain degree showed statistical significance analyzed by SPSS 19 statistical analysis software. The operation time of two surgical methods in patients with the same level(Operation time: Group of grade I: t=-5.949, P < 0.05; Group of grade II: t=-11.550, P < 0.05; Group of grade III: t=-2.389, P < 0.05; Bleeding volume: Group of grade I: t=-4.570, P < 0.05; Group of grade II: t=-9.682, P < 0.05; Group of grade III: t=-9.682, P < 0.05; Pain degree: Group of grade I: t=-61.599, P < 0.05; Group of grade II: t=-104.500, P < 0.05; Group of grade III: t=-38.142, P < 0.05). The wound healing time of two groups showed no statistical significance( Wound healing time: Group of grade I:t=0.044, p=0.966; Group of grade II: t=-0.903, p=0.374; Group of grade III t=-1.871, p=0.104). The recurrence rate between the experimental group(3.0%) and the control group(27.8%) by follow-up within 24 to 36 months after surgery showed statistical significance(χ2=7.113,p=0.008).Conclusion:The method of endoscopic surgery using the plasma radiofrequency ablation at low temperature has a good effect on the treatment of nasal inverted papilloma, with the advantages of shorter operation time, less bleeding, less pain, more clear surgical field, no need for nasal packing and complete removal of tumor. Also, this method shows a high cure rate and low recurrence rate, which has proved to be a new and effective treatment.
