As a work department where hospital resource brings together, Operating room is also an important place for the patients’ rescue and treatment. Thus, hospital managers pay more attention to the efficiency, benefit, and process optimization of the operating room. A reasonable work-flow of operating room, whose scientific design and management play an important role in the improvement of surgical efficiency and quality will benefit the overall operations of the hospital.Six-sigma, based on the customers’ perspective and data analysis, is a statistic measuring the achievement of quality objectives of service or process by data defining on statistics, measuring, analysis, improvement and controlling. It also provides an approach to process improvement, making the operation of the hospital to the best condition. In this paper, the operation business process of Hospital X is studied as the background. We also discuss the statistical significance, features, organization, and the basic DMAIC pattern applied in the process optimization of six-sigma. Additionally, the pattern of business process optimization in hospital operation room based on six-sigma is proposed, combining with the features of surgery business process management. According to the current situation and problems of surgical business process in Hospital X, we have defined the content of the project, identified the surgery flowchart existed and six-sigma team members reaching a consensus about the project. The cost of the project and the benefits predicted after improvement implementation are estimated. The data of operation room in Hospital X from January to December in 2013 has been collected and analyzed, to determine the variables influencing the operation business process arranged in the order of importance, which are the delay of the1 stscheduledsurgery, the low efficiency between continuous surgery, invalid OR occupation, and the low utilization rate of operation room. Then the coping improvement and control can be conducted. Finally, the effect after surgery business process optimization has been evaluated, proving that the desired results have been received.
