| Background: Primary bronchogenic carcinoma, lung cancer for short, refers to malignant tumor originated in the bronchial mucosa or gland. For now, cancer is the second major reason of death in the world population[1]. According to the recent data shows in China, the incidence of lung cancer increased year by year, and in recent years, the mortality of lung cancer increased obviously. Lung cancer has become the leading cause of cancer death [2]. Lung cancer is divided into small cell lung cancer(S CLC) and non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC). In the treatment, small cell lung cancer is more sensitive to the chemotherapy and radiotherapy, so these are the main treatment method. The treatment of NSCLC needs to take the tumor histology, tumor stage and patient’s own characteristics and other factors into consideration. In recent years, though of the improvement and innovation of the treatment technology,the early diagnosis of lung cancer is still difficult, and the treatment of NSCLC is still hard for a qualitative breakthrough. Therefore, to improve the quality of life and the survival time of patients with comprehensive treatment methods, is still the main objective at present. In various kinds of treatment methods, the idea and advantage of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) is gradually being recognized. Through years of clinicalpractice, modern research and experimental confirmation, it has showed that traditional Chinese herbs can alleviate the toxicity of chemotherapy, promote the rehabilitation of postoperative patients, and to a certain extent, inhibit the recurrence, metastasis and growth of the tumor. With this method, it may improve the quality of life and prolong the survival time of patients.Objective: Professor Xie has a experience of clinical practice for nearly forty years. He has been committed to the treatment of difficult and miscellaneous diseases, and has rich experience in the treatment of tumor, especially lung cancer. He created his own herbal remedies for the treatment of advanced lung cancer patients and achieve ideal healing effect. In this paper, the experience of the teacher in clinical therapy for NSCLC is collected and summarized, in order to provide a new treatment idea for NSCLC.Research methods: With nearly more than 2 years clinical study with Professor Xie, the understanding of lung cancer etiology and pathogenesis, the characteristic of syndrome differentiation and prescription rules are summarized and illustrated with the typical cases.Results: Professor Xie holds that the pathogenesis of lung cancer is in concern with two factors: exogenous pathogenic factors(exogenous qi or pathogens)and internal pathogenic factors( injuries and loss of internal Yin, Yang, Qi and blood). Its pathogenesis and disease course change in total around the strength of the vital qi. So in the treatment of lung cancer, reinforcement and protection of vital qi are mainly emphasized. The spleen is attributed to the earth and the lung is attributed to the gold in the five elements. Earth gives birth to gold. Combined with the organs’ own physiological and pathological characteristics, reinforcing the spleen(earth) to strengthen the lung(metal) is a vital treatment of lung cancer. On this basis, integrated with syndrome differentiation by addition and/or subtraction of herbs, the treatment often can obtain better curative effects. Comprehensive treatment is advocated by Professor Xie. He proposes that patients with lung cancer achieve a life from survival with tumor to living with tumor, and do not advocate treatments that additionallydamage the vital qi, such as excessive chemotherapy, surgery, principle of clearing heat and detoxicating. Viewed from clinical practice, strengthening body resistance does change the quality of life and clinical prognosis of patients.Conclusion: Professor Xie has his own theoretical system in treating NSCLC,and it is clinically effective and worthy of learning, summarization, further research and application. |
