BACKGROUND: It is lack of the research of biocompatibility of HA/PPS composites.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the biocompatibility of the HA/PPS composites.METHODS: With reference to the biological evaluation standard of medical equipment(GB/T 16886), contact angle test were conducted with contact angle meter, cony blood, the rats and L929 mouse fibroblast cells were applied to hemolysis test, cytotoxicity test in vitro, systemic toxicity test, irritative and delayed hypersensitive reaction test and local reaction test of post-implantation for HA/PPS composites.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Compared with PPS(sheet: 83.5°, powder: 81.25),HA/PPS composites own good hydrophilic performance(sheet: 42.5°, powder: 16.1°);hemolysis ratio of HA/PPS composites was less than 5%(1.66%),which shows good blood compatibility; L929 cells grew well in leaching liquor of the composites; the CCK-8 test showed the cytotoxicity in vitro belongs to non-toxic category(Level 0-1). The cytotoxicity in vivo showed non-toxic and non-sensitized effect of leaching liquor. Both he degree of inflammatory reaction(15d ≤ level III, 30 d ≤ level II)and the thickness of fibrous capsule(15d ≤ level III, 30 d ≤ level II)showed good biocompatibility of composites after the implantation.All these results proved the HA/PPS composites own excellent biocompatibility.
