Objective:This paper aimed to analyze three important aspects:early prevention, efficacy evaluation, and prognosis clinical significance of carotid atherosclerosis (CA), generated by comparing the differences between the hardenability of CA and the echogenicity of CA plaques found on two elderly groups:Group A were those patients who got essential hypertension (EH) only and Group B were the ones who got EH, diabetes mellitus (DM), and CA as well. Methods:This paper selected 161 cases (87 males and 74 females) of elderly patients who got EH, ranging from 65 to 95 years old. Classified them into two groups:Group A were 43 cases who got EH and DM, among which 37 cases were found to have CA plaques; Group B were 118 cases who got EH only, while 118 of them were found to have CA plaques. Based on several basic indicators including gender, age, hypertension age, body mass index, average resting heart rate, ambulatory blood pressure, circadian rhythm, liver and kidney function, fasting blood glucose (FBG), cholesterol, carotid ultrasound, CA plaques’echogenicity, this paper made an analysis on the factors that affected patients’ CA plaques’ echogenicity in details. Results:Between the selected two groups,i. No statistical significance was found in the basic information of patients (P> 0.05);ii. No statistical significance was found in the formation of CA plaques (P> 0.05);iii. Statistical significance was found in the CA plaques’echogenicity that Group A was lower than Group B (P<0.01);iv. Statistical significance was found in the FBG and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) that Group A was higher than Group B regarding FBG while lower than Group B regarding HDL-C (P<0.01);v. Statistical significance was found regarding the relevance of gender and the formation of CA hard and soft plaques that male patients were more easily to be affected by malakoplakia than female patients (P<0.05).Conclusion:i. The CA plaques’ echogenicity found in elderly patients who got EH and DM are relatively lower and unstable.ii. No significant difference is found in the CA degree between the elderly patients who get EH and those who get both EH and DM. iii. The CA plaques’ echogenicity is closely related to hyperglycemia and HDL-C reduction.iv. Male patients are more easily to become affected by soft plaques.
