Based on tradition chinese medicine theory of long-term clinical experience emphasize the " preventive treatment of disease ", "medicinal and edible" conduct therapeutic regimen, disease prevention, better suited to the sub-health care and chronic care. With the improvement of people’s quality of life, health care is paid more and more attention. Green, health function, natural medicinal and edible plants has attracted people of all ages. Based on these, chemical constituents and bioactivities of M. charantia and N. physaloides were investigated in dissertation, respectively.M. charantia belongs to the family of Cucurbitaceae, which has been cultivated as a favorable vegetable crop as well as used in folk medicine to prevent and treat intestinal diseases and diabetes. Recently, its anti-obesity effect has been concerned, however, the anti-obesity constituents and mechanism of M. charantia is not clear. Meanwhile, different parts of M. charantia have different chemical compositions. Thus, to further establish and enrich the sample library of triterpenoids, and to clarify the mechanism of inhibitory activity of fat deposition, twenty-nine compounds, including twenty-six triterpenoids, three lignans were isolated from the seeds of M. charantia. Among them, eight compounds (1-8) were new triterpenoids, including two new triterpenoid skeleton compounds (7-8). Selected compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity and inhibitory activities of fat deposition. The results showed that 22 displayed moderate inhibitory activities of fat deposition. The plant Nicandra physaloides (Solanaceae), Peruvian origin, is only one species of the genera Nicandra, and widely cultivated in Yunnan and Guangxi provinces. The herb of N. physaloides has been used as folk medicine for sedation, fever relieving, detoxification and cough relieving. Withanolides, as the main characteristic constituents from N. physaloides. However, the active constituents of N. physaloides were studied rarely. To explore the biological activity of withanolides, thirty-one compounds, including thirty withanolides, one casbane type diterpene were isolated. Among them, nineteen compounds (1-19) were new withanolides. Compounds 13 and 14 were naturally occurring first withanolides with nitrogen substitution. Compounds 24,25 and 27 were the first reported from genus Nicandra. In addition, in order to investigate the toxicity and potential medicinal value, selected compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity.
