| Object:To compare the efficiency of acupuncture point application therapy to patients with simple bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis combined asthma.Method:This retrospective study was conducted at Jiangsu Province Hospital of TCM in July,2008. Patients who visited department of tcm acupuncture for simple bronchial asthma or allergic rhinitis combined asthma and received first time acupuncture point application therapy were enrolled. We compared characteristics between patients with simple bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis combined asthma after three months, six months, and nine months of the therapy as followed:recurrence episodes, duration between therapy and recurrence, recurrence rate, admission rate, medication compliance, and medication safety.Result:1. Comparing recurrence rate in two patient groups after three-month therapy and six-month therapy, there was no statistical significance (P>0.05) found. In contrast, there was a significant lower (P<0.05) recurrence rate in patients with simple bronchial asthma after receiving therapy for nine months.2. During whole study period, there was no significant difference in hospitalization rate between patients with simple bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis combined asthma. (P>0.05)3. The post-treatment duration of first recurrence episode is shorter in patients with simple bronchial asthma than patients with allergic rhinitis combined asthma. (P<0.05)4. No medication compliance difference was found between two populations after three-month therapy and six-month therapy (P>0.05). In the other hand, rate of taking medication for asthma in patients with simple bronchial was lower than in patients with allergic rhinitis combined asthma (P<0.05).5. There was no adverse effect noted during whole study period. Conclusion:Through this retrospective study, acupuncture point application therapy is effective to patients with either simple bronchial asthma or allergic rhinitis combined asthma. Furthermore, the efficiency was more prominent to patients with simple bronchial asthma. |
