Objective: to investigate the recent therapeutic effect of the integrated therapies of traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine on sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) and its related factors.Methods:368 patients with SSNHL from September 2010 to September 2014 were divided into two groups.162 patients in control group received basic treatments of modern medicine. 206 patients in research group underwent integrated therapy of modern.medicine and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) which was classified into six syndrome types according to TCM theory. One course of treatment lasts 7 days, and the two groups were both administrated two courses. All the patients were given audiometric evaluation by pure tone audiometer after treatment. The effectiveness of medication was evaluated as well as symptoms companied with such as tinnitus, vertigo, sensation of blockage. Multiple indicators potentially related to SSNHL was observed, including gender, age, side of sick ear, course of disease, type of audiogram, hearing loss level, underlying condition such as hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia and treatment received previously or not. Results: The cure rate and the total effective rate of research group were higher than control group (P<0.05). The effectiveness of accompanying symptoms, such as tinnitus, sensation of blockage, were both superior to control group (P<0.05). Single Factor Analysis:There was no statistical significances in both the research group and control group on total effect rates of gender and side of sick ear(P>0.05). There were statistical difference among different course of disease in both groups (P< 0.05). The shorter the course of disease was, the better the effect was. There was statistical difference among different degree of hearing loss in both groups (P< 0.05). The milder, the better. The total effective rate declined in order from ascending graph to flat graph to irregular graph to descending graph of audiogram (P<0.05). There was statistical difference among the patients with condition or not(P<0.05). The total effective rate of patients treated initially was superior to the patient who treated previously (P < 0.05). Logistic multivariate regression analysis identified five independent factors: age, disease course, type of audiogram, hearing loss level and underlying condition. Conclusions:The total effectiveness of the integrated therapy of TCM and modern medicine on SSNHL and its accompanying symptoms, such as tinnitus and sensation of blockage, were superior to modern medicine therapy. The effect is related to age, disease course, type of audiogram, hearing loss level and underlying condition. The earlier patients treated, the lighter of hearing loss level, the younger, the better the effectiveness is. The effectiveness gradually declined from upward graph to flat graph to irregular graph to downward graph. Underlying condition such as hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia affected therapeutic effects.
