Objective: Through collating and analyzing the relevant information of Taixi(KI 3) acupoint in Chinese medicine literature before the Qing dynasty(including Qing dynasty), to sum up the clinical application law of Taixi(KI 3) acupoint in the ancient medical literatures.Methods:Using the "Chinese Medical Classics"(Fourth Edition) published by electronic audio and video publishing house of hunan as the main data sources and retrieving the related literature of Taixi( KI 3) acupoint,then set up the relevant databases and analyze those date through the software SPSS 19.0.Results: There were 45 kinds of syndromes treated by Taixi(KI 3) acupoint alone, in which there are 25 kinds of advantageous syndromes were screened. There were 69 kinds of syndromes treated by Taixi(KI 3) acupoint combined with other acupoints, in which there are 22 kinds of advantageous syndromes as same as those high frequency prescriptions of acupoints were screened. There are 178 channels acupoints and 11 extra-points combined with Taixi(KI 3). The top three points were Rangu(KI 2), Sanyinjiao(SP 6) and Taichong(LR 3). The main acupuncture techniques are moxibustion and needling. The most common depth of needling is needle-third while the time for acupuncture is seven breath and the quantification for moxibustion is three zhuang.Conclusion: The results of the study show the ancient clinical application of Taixi(KI 3) comprehensively and have a great reference value for future clinical and scientific research. At the same time, the process of establishing the database and data mining provide the ideas of new research modes for the study on characteristics and regularity of acupuncture and moxibustion.
