OBJECTIVE:The purpose of this study is to conclude the efficiency of the treatment of calcaneal fractures using locking plates, and sum up exiperience. MEHTODS: From January 2012 to March 2014, 51 patients with calcaneal fractures were treated with locking plates in Zunyi Medical college Affiliated Hospital, 32 patients with 43 calcaneal fractures achieve the follow-up actually. According to Sanders classification system, there were 18 cases belong to the type II, 18 cases of type III, and type IV were 7, all of them were closed fractures. In pre-operation and post-operation, respectiely measured the calcaneals’ heigth, length, width, the anlge of B?hler and Gissane in the types of Sanders II、III、IV, and evaluated the condition of the reduction of fratures. Before and after operation, evaluating the function of the foot by the score system of Maryland, and the results used t test. RESULTS: 32 patients with 43 calcaneal fractures achieve the follow-up actually. All patients were followed up 12 months on average. All fractures were healed, the average healing time was 10 to 16 weeks, all feet achieved satisfaction function. 2 cases occur wound infection, and the wound was healed after dressing treatment, 1 case occur skin necrosis and healed after skin graft. In pre-operation and post-operation, respectiely measured Sanders II、III、IV calcaneals’ heigth, length, width, the anlge of B?hler and Gissane in lateral calcaneal slice, and the results used t test, there was significant difference(P <0.05). Before and after operation, according to the Maryland score system for the calcaneal fractures of Sanders II、III、IV, and the results used t test, there was significant difference(P <0.05). According to the standard of Maryland score system, for Sanders type II, 10 feet got an excellent result, 7 good, 1 fair, the rate of fine was 94.4%. In the type of Sanders III, 9 feet got an excellent result, 6 good, 3 fair, the rate of fine was 83.3%. The type of Sanders IV: 2 feet got an excellent result, 3 good, 1 fair, the rate of fine was 74.1%. CONSLUSION:The surgical treatment of calcaneal fractures using open reduction and internal fixation with LCP has achieved good results.
