Objective:To determine the effect of nocturnal sleep disturbance on intraocular pressure(IOP) in patients.Method:In this prospective clinical study, patients with Normal person,ocular hypertension(suspicious glaucoma) and high intraocular pressure in patients after glaucoma surgery were admitted to an inpatient sleep laboratory for two 24-hour sessions monitoring IOP. The IOP was tested only once at 3:30am the first day and once every two hours since 7:30am in the second 24-hour session. The data were collected and analysed with SPSS 18.0 statistical software.Results:1. Twenty patiens(40 eyes) with average age 31.2±8.7(24-41)years old were enrolled in this study. The mean IOP at the first 3:30am was14.2±3.4(11-17)mm Hg.After the nocturnal sleep was disturbed, The mean IOP increased to15.9±4.9(11-22)mm Hg at the second 3:30am. There was statistical significant difference(t =-2.021, P <0.05)for the two 3:30am groups.2.Twenty-three patiens(36 eyes) with average age 58.1±25.6(33-74) years old were enrolled in this study. The mean IOP at the first 3:30am was20.2±3.0(15-24)mm Hg. After the nocturnal sleep was disturbed, Themean IOP increased to 23.9±5.0(16-30)mm Hg at the second 3:30am. There was statistical significant difference(t =-5.150, P <0.05)for the two 3:30am groups.3.Thirty-seven patiens(62 eyes) with average age 41.1±18.6(27-60) years old were enrolled in this study. The mean IOP at the first 3:30am was20.2±3.0(15-26)mm Hg. After the nocturnal sleep was disturbed, The mean IOP increased to 21.9±4.0(16-28)mm Hg at the second 3:30am. There was statistical significant difference(t =-5.150, P <0.05)for the two 3:30am groups.4. Comparison of two groups of results, the ocular hypertension subjects(t =-5.150, P, <0.05),High intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma surgery(t =-9.203, P, <0.05), multiple IOP measurements on nocturnal IOP after glaucoma surgery patients with high intraocular pressure is more obvious.Conclusion:(1)The nocturnal IOP increased if the sleep was disturbed. And the normal population, and the normal population, ocular hypertension population and high intraocular pressure after anti glaucoma surgery patients were significant.(2)Single nocturnal IOP measurement may be more accurate for patients...
