Objective:To investigate the status quo of primary caregiver’s KAP and stroke’s quality of life, then to explore the relationship between the QOL and KAP.The influential factors have been discussed to provide the theoretical basis to improve the caregiver’s KAP level and patient’s QOL.Method:From January to September in 2011,250 pairs of stroke Patients and their primary caregivers from 3 hospitals(Fujian Medical University Union Hospital,The Second People’s Hospital of Fujian Province, and The People’s Hospital of Fujian Province),and 6 communities (Shanghai Street Community, Wufeng Community, Nanjie Community,Gulou Community)have been investigated by convenience sampling method in Fuzhou city. The questionnaires consist of four parts:the demographic information questionnaires of patients and caregivers, the self-designed KAP questionnaires, and the WHOQOL-BREF.The statistical data were analyzed by the Statistical Package for Social Science(SPSS) 17.0 and the strategies included descriptive statistics,independent-sample t-test,ANOVA,Spearman correlation analysis and multiple linear regression.Results:1. Analysis showed that patient’s gender, age, educational background, complications, sequelaes, bad habits, different places of stroke, types and medical insurances correlated with the patients’s QOL(P<0.05 or 0.01).It also showed that caregiver’s ways of obtaining knowledge different and kinships with patients correlated with the patients’s QOL(P<0.05 or 0.01).2.The mean knowledge score of caregivers was(25.62±7.42),accounting for 69.24% of the full score. The mean attitude score was (48.17±6.58),accounting for 80.28% of the full score. The practice score was(35.36±6.24),accounting for 64.29% of the full score. The mean KAP score was(109.14±15.16),accounting for 71.80% of the full score.3. Spearman correlation analysis showed that there were positive correlation between knowledge and attitude(r=0.337,P<0.01),attitude and practice(r=0.526,P<0.01),knowledge and practice(r=0.361,P<0.01).4. Analysis showed that caregiver’s gender, age, educational background, vocations, marriages, different kinships with patients, participator, numbers of help and ways of obtaining knowledge correlated with caregiver’s KAP level(P<0.05 or 0.01). It also showed that patients’s educational background, vocations, marriages, times of hospitalization, monthly per capital family income and medical insurances correlated with (P<0.05 or 0.01).5. There were positive correlation between patient’s QOL and caregiver’s KAP(P<0.05 or 0.01).Conclusion:1. The influencing factors of patient’s QOL were patient’s gender, age, educational background, complications, sequelaes, different places of stroke, types, medical insurances, and ways of obtaining knowledge, different kinships with patients.2. Generally speaking, the attitude score of caregivers was at a relatively high level, and the knowledge and practice score were at low level.3. Knowledge, attitude and practice were positively correlated.4. The six influencing factors of caregiver’s KAP were the caregiver’s educational background, monthly per capita family income, medical nursing knowledge source, television and broadcast knowledge source, relatives, the nursing difficulties of caregiver’s weary, the help of community health service centre.5.
