Development Of An Elder Abuse Knowledge-Attitude-Practice Scale For Caregiver

Objective:To develop a Knowledge-Attitude-Practice scale of elder abuse for caregiver and to provide a quantitative assessment tool evaluating the caregiver Knowledge-Attitude-Practice of the elderly abuse.Methods:The draft of the elder abuse knowledge-attitude-practice scale was established by literature review,in-depth interview,focus discussion and expert consultation.Pre-survey was conducted among 200 caregivers by convenience sampling to select scale items and test its reliability and validity.Results:Three sub-scales were built including knowledge,attitude and practice respectively.5 dimensions and 22 items of knowledge sub-scale,4 dimensions and 14 items of attitude sub-scale,5 dimensions and 15 items of behavior sub-scale were preserved through the item selection.The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the three sub-scale were 0.893,0.831,0.764 respectively after deleting entries and good construct validity has shown by means of exploratory factor analysis.Conclusion:A Knowledge-Attitude-Practice scale of elder abuse for caregiver,which has good representative, applicability and operability has been preliminarily built,and it can be used as a quantitative assessment tool to measure relevant information of caregiver on elder abuse.
