Objective: To understanding the dietary and nutritional status of AIDS patients in rural areas, provide basic data for further nutrition intervention study. In order to prevent and control the disease deterioration of AIDS patients and improve their quality of life, use the traditional Uighur vegetable both food and medicine Qamuguer to take nutrition intervention for AIDS patients, and observe its effect. At the same time to investigate the awareness rates of HIV/AIDS related knowledge among residents and AIDS patients in high incidence of AIDS in Xinjiang, and provide scientific basis for AIDS and health education in the future. Methods: 1. Nutrition intervention: Select 110 cases of HIV/AIDS patients who met inclusion and exclusion criteria. These patients were randomly divided into intervention group and control group. The intervention group were given Qamuguer tablets on the basis of antiviral drugs for 3 months. The control group was treated with conventional antiviral. Before the intervention, use the method of 24 hour dietary retrospective to investigate the baseline data of general conditions, dietary intake of two groups. Then, checked the body height, body weight, peripheral T cell subsets, blood biochemistry, symptoms and signs of two groups. After the intervention, the above indicators were tested again, use between groups before and after comparing method,analysis of intervention effects. 2. Questionnaire survey: Use the designed questionnaire to investigate the HIV/AIDS related knowledge of HIV/AIDS patients and healthy population. Results: 1. Dietary survey results: The intakes of cereals, fruits, meats reached the recommended intake of the dietary pagoda, while the intake of the other food,vegetable, fish, eggs, milk, beans, oils can not meet the intake of the dietary pagoda; The actual intake of energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate and other nutrients accounted for 87.5%,91.2%, 67.0%, 118.9% of the recommended nutritional intake respectively; The energy,protein and fat intake below the recommended value, while carbohydrate intake exceeds the recommended value, and the dietary intake of the objects is unreasonable. 2.Nutritional intervention results: After the nutrition intervention, the nutrition indicators of body weight and BMI increases compared with pre-intervention, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The intervention group had significantly improved the frequency of symptoms and signs compared with pre-intervention. The scores of main symptoms, secondary symptoms and the main signs lower than pre-intervention, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). CD4+ cell counting and the CD4+/CD8+ratio of the intervention group is better than the control group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). WBC, RBC, PLT, ALT, AST, D-BIL, ALB and CRE levels of the intervention group were improved than pre-intervention, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). 3. Questionnaire survey results: The total awareness rate of knowledge about HIV/AIDS of the respondents was 76.0%, the awareness rate of HIV/AIDS related knowledge in HIV/AIDS group was better than in the healthy controls,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01). 41.7% of patients with HIV/AIDS is not applicable to condoms, the rate of condom use was relatively lower. The main way to acquire AIDS related knowledge was from TV, radio, publicity materials. Respondents hope to acquire transmission routs, preventive measures, note of daily life of AIDS.Conclusion: 1. The patients inadequate food intake in this survey, dietary structure is irrational and eating disorders. Therefore, nutrition intervention is a important measures must be taken. 2. Qamuguer tablets can improve the physical state and can improve the nutritional status of AIDS patients, reduce the occurrence of adverse symptoms and signs,reduce the side effects of antiviral drugs and no adverse reactions. Improve the therapeutic efficacy of drugs, in the mean time it can enhance the immune function and play a positive regulatory role on the patient’s immune system. 3.
