| ObjectiveThis study is to investigate the efficacy of acupuncture treatment on sleep disturbance in baby with deformational plagiocephaly. The proportion of deformational plagiocephaly increased year by year, received more and more attention, therapy and corresponding therapeutic interventions are few Before six-month-old babies always accept SLEEPCURVE to sleep in order to make correct sleep position and cure deformational plagiocephaly in early However, SLEEPCURVE leads easily to infant sleep disturbance. Then we invented a new method combined Jin-three Needle’s Acupuncture with SLEEPCURVE treatment to help babies with sleep disturbance have better sleep and improve SLEEPCURVE effect on deformational plagiocephalyMethods49 cases suitable for the inclusion criteria from Chongqing Xinqiao Hospital Children’s rehabilitation were divided into 2 group by the parents’ desire. The control one got 29 cases treated by the simple SLEEPCURVE treatment. The adjustment group got 20 cases treated by the acupuncture combined with the SLEEPCURVE treatment. Added with the teatment of the controlled group and coordinated with apropriate stimulation and needle retaining time, the acupoint of the "Si-shen-zhen" and "Ding-shen-zhen" in the "Jin-three needle therapy" will be chosen, and All patients were assessed before, after one month, after two months and after three months treatment by Cranial Vault Asymmetry Index (CVAI) and the Brief Screening Questionnaire for Infant (BISQ)Results1.Cranial Vault Asymmetry Index (CVAI)Scores of the Cranial Vault Asymmetry Index (CVAI) in groups both decrease after treatment for 4 weeks,8weeks and 12 weeks. The result means two groups do well in treating deformational plagiocephaly. CVAI difference of before and after treatment between the two groups both increased greatly. And the adjustment group’s CVAI difference increased more greatly than the control one, which suggest that CVAI change large more. CVAI difference of before and after treatment for 8 weeks between the adjustment group and the control one was no significant difference by statistics analysis (P=0.056), (P> 0.05). But CVAI difference of either before and after treatment for 4 weeks, or before and after treatment for 12 weeks between the adjustment group and the control one was significant difference by statistics analysis (P<0.05), which suggest that curative effect of the adjustment group is more significant than the control one, and also the long-term curative effect of this is better than that2.the Score of Brief Screening Questionnaire for Infant (BISQ)The total quality of sleep between the two groups showed that the number of babies with sleep disturbance in the adjustment group decreased after treatment for 12 weeks than before. And the number of babies with sleep disturbance in the control group increased after treatment for 12 weeks than before. There was significant difference in the number of babies with sleep disturbance between the two groups by statistics analysis (P<0.05), which suggest that the babies of the adjustment group sleep averagely better than the babies of the control group after treatment for 12 weeks. As for the night awakening times (P= 0.000), the night sleep duration (P= 0.000), the night awakening duration (P= 0.000), the coming to sleep time (P= 0.000), daytime sleep duration (P= 0.583), were compared between after treatment for 12 weeks and before in the difference. In fact daytime sleep duration (P> 0.05) was no significant difference and the other four aspects were different (P < 0.05) by statistics analysis. It suggested that acupuncture can reduce the number of the night awakening times, the night awakening duration and the coming to sleep time, and also increase the night sleep duration, so as to improve the quality of sleep in babies. All in all, Jin-three Needle’s acupuncture therapy can help babies get better sleep.Conclusion1. SLEEPCURVE treatment can effectively correct sleep position of before six-month-old babies by deformational plagiocephaly in early2.
